Question for Whirlybird
I’m curious, why is the adjective “whirly “ feminine? After reading many posts, I have come to the conclusion that “whirly” is almost always used to describe a feminine pronoun or noun?
Examples: Whirlybird, Whirlygirl, whirlygig ....
Examples: Whirlybird, Whirlygirl, whirlygig ....

There used to be a ppruner called "Whirlycopter" and I THINK (only think, mind) that he was a chap.
However, when I picked my username, I did so with no reference to the Whirlygirls organisation ('cos I'd never heard of them at that time) but purely because it is the name of a traditional English tune (Playford for those who care) with a heli connatation and ,as a musician, it seemed appropriate.
...as for the calender.... if it's going to be as tasteful as the East Anglian Air Ambulance (black & white v. sexy) and the others are game then baggsy I'll be Miss January. Can't say fairer than that eh boys?
Cheers

whirlygirl 530
whirlygirl 530 was at the HAA stand at the Avalon airshow, signing & flogging her book 'whirlygirl 530'
interesting that not one of the 3 female pilots i spoke to at the HAA stand knew of PPRUNE, but then nor did the other (few) student helo pilots i spoke with.
but most of the pilots actually flying were all well aware of it.
am curoius to ask at what point did most pprune-loiterers become enlightened to the existance of PPRUNE?

There used to be a TV series here years ago called Whirlybirds so I guess that may be where the connection started.
I found Pprune a few years ago when I got fed up with the way that rec.aviation.rotorcraft was going in the days of the Mini 500 saga. I have not even looked there for years now.

The Whirlybirds .....
Pete "P.T." and Chuck
More nostalgia here
The Whirlybirds is one of my two earliest recollections of 'favourite' television series.
The other one was The Lone Ranger.
Both superb.
Of course, in those days, I didn't know this is how they did it ....
Illusions shattered.
But it didn't stop me pretending to be PT when I did a few hours in a Bell 47 in America a couple of years ago.
Can't help wondering, just a bit, if my hero ever really rode Silver.
(If he didn't, don't tell me. I'd rather not know.)

FL,
Did you see the photo of the JetRanger on retractable wheels in the National Helicopters site?
Interesting concept.

Come on girls only 11 months more left to fill
Sure they will sell like hotcakes and there must be a well deserving aviation / helicopter related (if possible) charity out there!
If we start now we will be ready for a 2006 calendar , so first to our female counterparts: please volunteer your services and to everybody: any suggestions for a good cause?
Of course I'm only suggesting this so some good cause can benefit and not for any other motive

Phew, just back after two days away, saw the title of this thread, with 11 posts...and thought they might all be questions for me!!!!!!
I was thinking of the TV series when I picked my name, but I also liked the idea of being a whirly...bird.
I'm off to Washington DC for the WhirlyGirls 50th celebrations next month, so........would you like me to mention your calendar suggestion? I'll let you know the response! Anyway, they're a really good organisation; they've just given me their international scholarship to spend on advanced training, which can't be bad; don't get given much in this game.

Be very careful what you publish on the website it may come back and bite you.
I was one of the 3 'girls' (haven't been described as a girl in a loooong time) previously mentioned on the HAA stand at the airshow. You never approached me as I would have told that I have been a member of PPrune for the last 4 years.
