Never having met Lu, I can only echo the sentiments of my fellow Rotorheads: I miss him already. As much as one might argue with him, as much one had to admire Lu’s forthrightness and integrity. Heartwrenching to think what a void he must leave in his family. RIP Lu.
Under the wide and starry sky
Dig the grave and let me lie
Glad did I live and gladly die
And I laid me down with a will
These be the words you grave for me
Here he lies where he longed to be
Home is the sailor, home from sea
And the hunter home from the hill.
Under the wide and starry sky
Dig the grave and let me lie
Glad did I live and gladly die
And I laid me down with a will
These be the words you grave for me
Here he lies where he longed to be
Home is the sailor, home from sea
And the hunter home from the hill.

If anyone wants to know what Lu looked like, he appeared in that Discovery Channel documentary about the Air Transat machine that ran out of fuel.

A Gentleman of Measures
Swapped quite a few emails with Lu over the years and always sought to read his posts here. A knowledgeable gent with a wealth of experience in aviation engineering, design and safety concerns. Few could ever hope to match his CV.
He led a very worthwhile life, a long life that retained his emblematic clarity of concise thought and logical reasoning - all the way to the end.

Lu Zuckerman
This is the first time that I have ever posted to this site, actually the firsttime I have ever posted to ANY site. I'm attempting this because of our Dad's great appreciation and respect for all of the members of PPRune (well, maybe some more than others...) that he came into contact with during the past few years.
Lu Zuckerman retired in dignity and peacefully, this past Saturday in the hospital in Monteral,Quebec.
His last words are rumored to have been something along the line of "Well, F*** Y** Sidney - I've got better things to do than hang around here and get wasted with you - so I'll pick up my wings and be gone" It was very peaceful and relativly quick - he was with his family and it was the way he preferred, sooner rather than later.
I spoke with him today at the service we had to see him off, and he wants everyone that knew and cared about him to know that he's doing great - no more illness or pain, a lot better view and an incredible PFPD (personal flight propulsion device) that is suppossedly maintenance free (?) He said he was very impressed but after a bit mor personal time with the system he believes that some slight modifications to the leading edge may increase...
Thank all of you - from all of us - more than we'll ever be able to say.

That thing will never fly...
Lu Zuckerman (update)
This is brief postscript about our fathers sudden departure to greater heights and less turbulent skies.
Yesterday I had the privelage of attending a small tribute to him yesterday that was well attended by close family and personal friends. After an all toobrief synopisosis attempting to state how important he REALLYis to all of us fortunate enough to have known him, it came to me that he does want all of you to know that while he did indeed recieve a set of wings it also qualifies him to pilot Rotorcraft as well. (Something about a turbine powered variable pitch beanie that stabilizes with these very cool Mercury style heel appendages?) - This small bit of technical info is just for you purist out there...
He also wanted for us to let you know that he actually did F***Sidney,as he caught an earlier flight that was non-stop and I think they probably serve cheesecake as well.
Dad has 4 kids, Alex, Marty, Lyne and Daniel (Lyne by the way is the girl - and very attractive - as well as the only kompewter literite one in the family) - so we are going to try to get a photo or two of Lu posted to PPRune in very short order.
Gentlemen, (and I say that after having grown up around guys like you) Thank you for your prayers and support, you have been an endless amount pleasure for him-
(It's been rumored that he had more than a few small kinks) and to his family as well.
Take good care of you and yours. And NEVER compromise your standards.
Thanks Again,
azuck

Just seen this thread Lu.
I make it 1 take off more than your number of landings - big guy.
We'll let you off just this once.

Alex,
It was a pleasure to have "met" your father on this website. He will certainly be missed by all of us - he often kept the rotorheads forum active by posting something when it got a bit quiet, controversial or otherwise!
PS. Glad to hear you will post some photos of him for posterity.
PPS. Then please put a photo of Lyne up here, too!
Best regards, ShyT

Very saddened to come on today and find the big man has gone. Like most I never met him but felt I knew him in some small way.
My deepest condolences to his family, he will be sorely missed by many.
Cheers Lu I’ll be raising my glass to you this evening.
