OK Gymble,
What am I missing here? Lets have a go.
You pay your IFR Twin Captains $100,000 p.a each. That's almost double the award.

You pay your Co-jo's $41,000 each. Thats their award.

You pay your Single Capt's whatever their award is, say $55,000.......and you treat them as if they're valued. They know they're in line for the $100,000 twin command and they'll want to stay where they're valued.

That leaves $216,000 to pay contract pilots with on an as-needed basis which, at 150 hours a year allows them $1440 per hour.............I'm a contractor and I'd be happy to fly myself across for an hourly rate like that. so PM me if I can help out.

Furthermore, be very careful about not paying the minimum award entitlement. Even if these poor suckers you are using for free sign to say they're happy to do so, you cannot legally contract out of any statutory obligations. The Helicopter Pilots General Award is a statutory obligation. So if in a few years time these 'free' pilots come back dis-gruntled and demand their unpaid wages you WILL have to pay them.

Cool

Gymble,

You have woken a sleeping dragon my friend!

You said:

"The helicopter industry and indeed the aviation industry as a whole have some very clever people associated with it."

I don't disagree with that point!

"Design engineers through production marketing and people that ensure continued airworthiness in both a regulatory sense and the practical people on the ground."

Now yer gettin stupid

"Pilots often in conversation condescend on many if not all of these great people from time to time."

And rightly so!

"Pilots have talked them selves into believing they are at the top of the food chain. Nothing wrong with a healthy ego I guess."

Wait just a minute! We are the top of the food chain. Without us there is NO industry!

"But I will not pay proportional to self importance. I pay what they are worth. I will pay exactly what I have to in order to get the job done."

Typical Cheap ******!

"Mostly that is cold meat and salad for lunch. Some times I provide accommodation."

Read as I don't give a Sod!

"Thank you for supplying me with immense amusement by some of you characters comparing yourself with doctors and lawyers."

Even Lawyers agree that the fewer, the better!

"In the words of an unemployed 100 hour wonder, “I do"n’t want to work, I want to fly!”"

As He/She should!

"Maybe he should turn his intellectual brilliance to medicine or law."

We already have too many!

Cheers,

OfshoreIgor

Going trolling in these waters is okay...but surf fishing while standing waist deep in the briny is a risky business. Sharks like Whirly abound here.

Some things bear fergettin' Whirls.....but not the sight of you at Redhill...leather vest....knee length boots....but thankfully you are saving the lash for Gymble! Reckon he would fancy a visit to your dungeon....that dark place with just the one very small window....no way out unless in possession of the key?

Gymble

You are the best example of what is wrong with this industry.

If I ever applied for a job to work for you or your company and you demonstrated the attitude you have placed in writing - I would feel it my God given right to take you outside and give you good flogging!

Who put you in charge of a $1m budget.

SASLess - I don't wear a vest; vests are for woosies! I think you'll find it was a leather basque It was colour co-ordinated with my dragon slaying equipment!

I think Vice Like must be losing his grip, LOL!

Although he said "he" I think he meant "her" - he laughed his "r's off".

Gymble

I told you I was sleeping!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What an appropriate name.

Hmmmmm, let me think.........You must feel you have a certain amount of balance in your life.....correct? And if that balance is upset you get angry....correct? And if you get angry you take a hissy fit.......correct? And if you take a hissy fit you feel the need to adjust your budget....correct?

Give me a break. I've been doing this since before you were in diapers and the math you learned still doesn't recognise the fact that without the pilot......the helicopter does not fly. Now, whenever you can teach a monkey to fly.....you will be heralded with the grandure and genious that you sooooooo desire. Until then......please be quiet.

That was me being polite.....wanna try rude?

On the subject of wages for skilled and un-skilled being so high in certain industries is all about hours worked.
An electrician working in the city probably only makes 45,000 a year for a 40 hour week.Sure, the charge for a job is much higher, because he works for someone who also forked out 60-100g to set up bussiness.
A truck driver or machinery operator may only get 35,000 a year for a 40 hour week.
All the above can boost the pay packet by overtime and end up doing 60 hours a week-------3000 hours a year--------something pilots cant do.
They can head bush and work in the mines---now the $,s rise.Basic hourly rates arent much higher, but area allowances, shift allowances etc bang it right up.Working for the big boys you may live in a company town and only do a 44 hour week.Work for contractors on a fly in--fly out basis and they can range fron 2 on-1 off to 6 on-1 off roster,on an hourly rate for every hour worked----no overtime money. And these guys work 12 hour day/night shifts for 13 days straight..That is non-stop work with 1/2 for lunch with no smoko,s.

My son flies choppers but is still under the 1000 hour barrier and only gets 25,000 a year.
To me this a joke----how can you live on that-----but unfortunately a lot are in the same boat.

To all the reasonably paid pilots, work out your hourly rate for hours done and your not that bad off.
Every man on earth wants more money and im one of them

It's interesting that, on the one hand, we have pilots who compare their "job" to that of the "traditional" professions i.e. doctor, lawyer, dare I say it, accountant and someone making a comparison with sparkies and truckies. Both have similarities to being a pilot so perhaps there is no comparable profession. Ultimately, market forces will rule but whether that will be to the advantage or detriment of helicopter aviation, who can say.

Cheers

PS - thank you Sassy!! And you've had the decency to use the present tense. When are you getting that sweet bird down here!

Cool

Gymble,

I was not saying I'm old...only stating that you are still obviously in diapers, as is displayed by your previous posts.

My friend, when you have seen the light and know the code of keeping the faith, then you can speak to this dignified group of proffesionals.

As for making it, I feel Heliport should step in here and discuss the policy of slinging shyte as you obviously have not read the rules of posting here.

PS. PM me and we will discuss this at length. I think you will find that I have more than made "it" as you say.

Cheers,

OffshoreIgor

Offshore - Don't fall into this wind up mate - you're too decent a chap to be publicly swiped at by this person. He/she is obviously not what they say they are (certainly NOT management) and they do this to let off steam against an industry which has probably damaged them or their aspirations some time in the past.
I would hazard a guess that they failed as a pilot sometime in their weak past and now find this forum as a relief vent for their anger/ frustration.

The best way round this ignominious detritus is to ignore it....

Can't you see - this type of person is a figment of his own imagination

Let's all move on....perhaps he won't follow?
