have had job offers from ADA and Horizon...any thoughts on the best way to go? If I go with Horizon, am I likely to be able to swap to ADA in future?

Don't see why not - pilots are interchangeable round here, assuming correct qualifications.

Gulf Helicopters got a 10% raise this week. God I hope so. It would be nice to come off of days off and find out I got a raise while I was at home. Can anyone confirm this. I know we did get a small allowance raise during my last hitch, worked out to be about $22.00 a day more. I guess I will find out for sure on Tuesday. First day back.
Cheers

Thanks Phil. Going by your answer, I assume you are in UAE? Could you contact me privately so I can ask you some questions re contracts?

Mmmmmmm .....

I kinda think that 10% will NOT tempt the guys who have just left Gulf (to go to ADA) to return !!!!!

Now let us see what the managemant (?) at ADA can come up with ..... to stop their attrition continuing.

Cheers

I would choose ADA over Horizon every time. The management are more predictable, and the Offshore stuff is more useful to you. Horizon still has many problems.

Hey Flungdung, $15 a day, where did you get that number from, 10% of our daily base rate. Unless your a co-pilot maybe. If you want to know what our daily rate is just ask. Every little bit helps.

No the major problem with Horizon is the General Manager, he is a local but not a Sheik. In my experience Sheiks (and most other UAE Nationals) are a lot more honourable than this man.

ADA or Horizon

Go with ADA mate, dont bother with Horizon.
The money and work is a lot better at ADA,& the engineering management dont tell lies either
However Al-Ain is a nice place if you want married accompanied.

Sorry Mate, I'm on days off so I don't hang around my computer that much at home. Daily rate should be around $307 per day plus three or is it four different allowances, gratuities and away from station pay. Hell they have given me two increases in pay in the last eight weeks so I really don't even know what my total daily rate is. Guess I will have to figure it out when I return to work next week.
Cheers

flungdung,

Why not just forget the Gulf? CHC is paying contract pilots CAD$ 700 (US$) 650 a day in Nigeria now. For both CHC and Bristow Captains in Nigeria now get an average of more than US$107,000 per annum for a 6/6 contract.

By all means, its your choice to go work in Nigeria. We happen to have two or three pilots that have left Bristow Nigeria due to the unrest there. Some pilots will go for the money and some won't. Its all about whats more inportant to the specific individual. Heading back to work today.
Fly safe

These rates are only half what a contract LAE gets in Africa now. No wonder there's a high staff turnover in the Arabian Gulf. It'shard to get people to work in West Africa, but the staff turnover is considerably less

Hi, apart from the money, what is the roster, especially for Married Accompanied? And while we are at it,what is the quality of the the "home time", and what about kids? Appreciate to hear from anyone there at the moment. Thanks.
