Jeffgw,
There are a few helicopter companies in Nigeria: Bristow, Aero Contractors, Caverton and OAS.
OAS is a Nigerian company and very small with just a couple of AS350Bs. It operates from Lagos and Port Harcourt. I don't think they pay much and I'm not too sure of whether they do much for providing for your personal security ( a must if you're flying in the Niger Delta region).
Caverton is also a Nigerian company and small, but just about to start a contract with Shell. They have a couple of Bell 412 EPs belonging to Lagos State Government, a couple of AS350B2s which do charter work and will shortly be taking over operating the EC155Bs owned by Shell. They are presently based in Lagos and Port Harcourt, but will also start in Warri in October.
Aero Contractors is now a wholly Nigerian company and operates a number of SA365, EC225 and S76 series for offshore oil and charter contracts. They have bases in Lagos, Warri and Port Harcourt.
Bristow is a joint Nigerian/American venture and operates B206/407, S76 series, S92, Bell 412 EPs, EC155Bs and AS332 series for oil company contracts. They have bases in Lagos, Escravos, Warri, Port Harcourt, Eket and Calabar.
The likelihood of your getting a job depends on whether you have offshore experience, an instrument rating, twin time and an absolutely minimum of 1,500 hours. I've been operating in this part of the world for over 30 years now and if you PM me with some details about yourself I can give you some advice.

Soggy, retires from the sky.
Well Soggy, Happy Birthday but sorry to see you flying just a desk now, I am sure you will keep your hand in at the sim though.
I can't count the times I have had work to fix an aircraft for you to take on the next trip. At least you've always brought them back in mostly one piece.
Thanks again.

Good Luck with driving a desk from now on, but whatever you do stay in touch with us all here on Rotorheads

Shell Management
As said on another forum on the change of contract:
Jeffgw be very cautious about certain companies operating in Nigeria.
As said on another forum on the change of contract:
This latest Shell fiasco in Nigeria is Shell's answer to BP's blowout in the Gulf.

Gees BE well done. I hope you continue to enjoy your involvement with the industry well into the future. Good to see you were not just cut adrift.
Say hi to all my mates still there.

What's New in W.Africa
hello to everyone.
someone lights, or can give me information about the search DanCopter for the new project in Nigeria? As I read the following minimum requirements:
- Valid JAR / CPL IR (H)
- Valid ATPL Theory
- Minimum 500 hours
If anyone knows of other requests, called "Details" I can better specify what they looking for? How many seek, and especially with what age. Thanks to those who answer to me, even if only in private.

Reserves
Sox6,
Perhaps we are just holding our breath to see what happens next!
Lagos International was closed without warning on Thursday due to a Presidential visit. After 15mins holding an OY callsign declared a PAN call due to shortage of fuel.
Would that be VFR or IFR reserves then?
Cyclic

Clearly Caverton are influencing the reserves policy at Caverton-DanCopter and are going for reserves that are consistent with other Nigerian operators - mostly vapour. What did Shell Management think of that?

Closure of MMIA due to a Presidential movement over the city is commonplace.
Any suggestion that a Shell contractor would operate with less than the contracted fuel reserves (JAR-OPS 3 plus 15 minutes) is more black propaganda from the losers.
I'm sure the silence will continue as the Caverton-DanCopter crews will be hard at work servicing their customers.

Tango,
In Africa it is commonplace for airports to be closed with no prior notification when some corrupt politician decides that he wants to fly in or out. Just another little operational problem that the helicopters crews are left to deal with.

... the Saga continues
... In the lands of the North, where the Black Rocks stand guard against the cold sea, in the dark night that is very long the Men of the Northlands sit by their great log fires and they tell a tale...
... truly the 6 of sox has tempted the fiery Nordic gods ...
... Knut .. an hairy Wiking ... This Nigeria is not nearly so bad as the tales told by the men of the Northlands. Truly that Lodge of the Bloo was an most unholy place of a Sunday but now we truly are most welcome ...
... Ragnar ... an most experienced Wiking master of the great Sea of the North ... truly, the dukky maidens fight not in the night as they have spake on the pages of our beloved Prune and our quarters give not the accursed luck of the castle of Elsinore ...
... Knut the HV ... the weather here is most fair, not like that in the lands of the North and truly we have come to a land of akvavit and kransekake from Madsen ...
... Ragnar the EW ... truly Hrothgar told us many tales of the Kraken which, having abandoned our icy coasts, now habit these warmer palm-fringed shores, feasting on the sacrifices of dukky maidens sacrificed in cultish ceremonies. However, it seemeth our leader exaggerates, wanting us to believe the legend of Trodelscow in Bonny ...
... Approach of the City of Lagos ... all traffic are adviced that Lagos is closed due VIP movement ...
... Knut the HV ... What is this, Hrothgar never mentioned this ... what do the bowel habits of these African VIPs have to do with our Danske flights ... where shall we go
... Ragnar the EW ... Lagos this is OY, Wiking Master, when will the field be open ...
... Approach of the City of Lagos .. is just a temporal matter ... it go open when it is no more closed abi
... Ragnar the EW ... what does that mean ...
... Approach of the City of Lagos ... na you dey sabi
... Ragnar the EW ... Knut, what are the options, where we can go? Unions rules states quite clearly they can not do this without 2 week's written notice to the union and then we must sit and having a demokratical discussion which we must win or receive compensation in advance ...
... Knut the HV ... but Ragnar, fuel is getting low and with this NEPA the akvavit may get warm before we return to our Great Hall to sup our Wiking brew and gaze upon the dukky maidens
... Ragnar the EW ... by Thor, you're right. Unions or not that's an emergency. Now how do they say it in English ... we take the chicken, we put it in the pot - gulps ... ok, here we go ...
"Pot Pot, Pot Pot, Pot Pot, OY ......... "
