What's New In W. Africa (Nigeria)

MikeNYC,
xtremalsound is half correct; Caverton may be willing to help but it won't be cheap as you'll be billed for the ferry flights and all aircraft/crew services, clearances etc. As far as I am aware OAS are to all intents and purposes defunct after their last accident.
You might contact Genesis as they recently bought all the former Shell EC155s and may be looking for business. They run a large freight, catering and cinema concern in Nigeria.

Thanks xtremalsound and NEO, I'll check out the recs. Our job is likely only 2-3h flying time total (one sortie) , and we wouldn't have the $ for ferrying in an AC from out of country.

NEO, As far as I Know, OAS is still operating, even somebody told me the other day that they have gotten a contract from PH with As355N and they were looking for pilots.
They have a new Chief pilot, but well we all know what it is going on there....

OAS is still at it. Had a close call with them this week while they were heading to PH Abonnema Zone out at 500' (+/-100') non-standard in hammatan visibility. Right over the top of the AGIP base. Maybe they should attend the Delta Operators meetings?

Not sure it was the 'light' that was seen.......
More to do with the rising cost of deep water oil and another operator throwing machines at them........where the pilots are paid a paltry amount in comparison so if you are all for that then invite me along to your next salary review - if you even have one at CHC??

PHI got the work by throwing S92 at what is ultimately a mediums job for a mediums price. If it works for them, that's capitalism folks.
EESDL - what does a PHI driver make then?

Not sure how up to date this is, but I don't think it qualifies as 'paltry'! Petroleum Helicopters Inc
It might be a few years since I graced the great halls of NHV. But it would take some doing to have lower employee management techniques and pay practices.
Perhaps things have changed but I seriously doubt it. If they are the bar setter in your opinion I suggest you try elsewhere you will be pleasantly surprised.

psyco,
They used to be invited to the Delta Operators meetings but never came. When I asked the NAF Commander why they hadn't turned up after their last accident (the flight into wires near Delta Steel) he told me their Head Office is in Maryland and it's too far to travel for the meeting.
So of course they missed all the discussions and information on PH zone changes until they were introduced. Plus other stuff like the Opukushi Corridor abolition debate etc. Must have come as a shock ?!

Drink had passed our lips but if my memory serves me correctly we were surprised to discover they were essentially being paid VFR rates.
That was gleaned from a a long night in a Takoradi bar circa 2011.
I fully concur with the mentioned levels of NHV management skills and attributes in WA.
Lowfat - was comparing pay with PHI for same area, not elsewhere. NHV included meals, transport, accommodation etc and with the Euro and tax regime at the time it was 'ok' for month on/off roster for me.
Flying new machines and in a great part of Africa ;-)
However, as the pound strengthened, warranty ran out for obtaining spares and management promises failed to materialise, the scales tipped and employment was found elsewhere.
As always, the balance depends on options and how much you have to put up with until you walk.
My original comment was made after discovering the 'beauty' of capitalism was in my favour at that time - only to fall prey to it later on in flying career when NHV caught up with me again and this time it was CHC throwing far better machines at the customer but at a silly 'chapter 11' sort of price........
Maybe PHI rates have improved, maybe not, but like all companies they will play the 'employment market' and on the pilots' insecurity and fears.
I know a 'captain' who took an FO salary just to remain employed in Norfolk - so I understand it is not always about the money. He was obviously not concerned about the perceived message he sent out to industry but Industry knows they can manipulate wages as pool of pilots allows. Others had different priorities and goals at that time.
I would have to be in very dire straits to work for them again - but never say never as I know the boys and girls flying the 175 are really enjoying the machine.
I just hope that I do not get myself into a position where I have to accept the offer!
212 - just had a look at those scales and it confirms what I was told at the time. NHV were paying the equivalent of PHI's top scale for their 'heavy IFR' - hence the reason for my comment.

Does anyone know what's happening with Genesis Global and Nestoil Aviation ? Both appear to have fledgling rotary operations. Are they actually operating yet, and if so for who ? I imagine Nestoil could fly for themselves, so to speak ?
