A320 Questions

Hi,

I was wondering if some bus drivers can answer some questions for me:

1 - How do you initiate a go around (missed approach). ie - some aircraft have a go around button on the throttle. Do you just move the throttle full forward (to the to/ga detent)?

2 - When you're using track made (instead of heading mode) to track a certain track, does the aircraft automatically adjust for winds (ie - crab into the wind to prevent drift)?

3 - When flying in the trk/fpa mode (autopilot off), how do you correctly follow the FD, since it's not really a FD anymore. Do you move the Flight Path Vector onto the Flight Path Director, or vice versa (never have flown this before). In other words, which one can you move through the flight controls (similar to moving the attitude indicator to match the FD, on a conventional FD).

Might have some more questions later. Many thanks for any insight!

1 - Move the throttles into the TOGA detent (full forward)

2 - It's the goal of the track mode....The aircraft keeps the ground track, so it's an heading adjusted for wind drift.

3. The Flight Path Vector on the airbus is more commonly referred to as the 'bird'. It is not a director to be followed, just an indication of the flight path the aircraft is taking. When you are in manual flight the idea is to adjust your flight path using the bird so that it is following the flight director. The flight director can be adjusted using the Flight Control Unit(FCU) or the MCDU.Hope this helps!

3. Not recommended to use in this mode with FD, but yes:
you move the Flight Path Vector onto the Flight Path Director

You can use it just as you use the cross hairs. It takes a bit of getting used to, and in my experience hardly anyone uses it.

Even if you are above the missed approach altitude, moving thrust levers momentarily to TOGA and back to climb is a good idea to sequence the box.
