Question what is it like??

I was just wondering (as a wannabe pilot)...

Would going into Ground Ops as a job when i leave college be a good idea to raise funds for my flying and to gain experience in the industry?

Also could someone who has done this before tell me more about what the job entales and yearly salary,(in laymens terms)?

The reason i don't post this in the Ops and crewing forum is because when iv posted in there i got an annual reply

Anyone with usefull advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Dave

"Annual reply?" Does that mean it took all year for people to post a reply?

Or was that a "null reply?"

Either way, the best way to fund your flying training is to get the job that pays most in the shortest time. Sure, you might gain "experience" of looking for lost passengers or despatching fuel bowsers or whatever but if you need funds, look for the best paying job you can find.

What's the point of having experience in flight ops if you're too poor to pay for your flying training?

I know someone a guy who worked cabin crew for a couple of years and had an absolute ball. Packed it in to embark on a modular course but was given a sponsorship with the company he crewed for (though he did have to work hard for it).

From what I've heard, you can have a great time working as cabin crew, build up some multi-crew co-op experience, learn about the industry, AND make those vital contacts. I think it would also be useful for most pilots to experience what the REST of the crew have to put up with during a flight while they're sitting up front!!

I'm not sure what the employment situation is; I heard they were affected very badly by the recent recession, though things are STARTING to pick up again. A couple of years would probably have done me some good before embarking on pilot training, bit too old now though : (
