A320 Type Rating with no circuits
Hi,
Hoping someone can assist in my 2 queries please.
Is there any point in doing a type rating on an A320 without doing the base training or circuits in the aircraft? I have no job to go to but thought about maybe getting a SFI Rating at the same time so as to be able to instruct.
Also, on an EASA Licence if no flying in the aircraft is done, is the rating in the licence still shown as "A320" or does it indicate a restriction due no actual aircraft flying?
Thanks if anyone can kindly assist.

If memory serves me right, you can only become an SFI with 1500 hours on type or above. If you're eligible for zero flight time training, there's a limitation on how soon after the ZFTT sim session you have to start line training. If you finish the sim course and do not do the base training within 6 months, you'll need extra training to become eligible for the type rating. So, worth waiting for a while, I think.

Thanks so far. No, I do mean SFI as I can't become a TRI yet as I haven't flown an aircraft for 12 months. SFI can be done with type rating and LOFT sims only.
Really want to know if the licence is endorsed "A320" or with a restriction. I can't see anything on the IAA or EASA websites.

Why A320? If you meet the SFI requirements then you should already have a type rating (737 presumably?) - I'm sure it would be much easier to do your SFI on that...

Thanks for the reply however I haven't flown a B737 for many years. The A320 rating will be a new type for me and yes, I meet all requirements for a SFI course.
Does anyone know if base training or circuits (or ZFFT) is NOT done, is the rating still a valid type rating? To use for later when flying returns...

Short answer: No
For ZFTT there must be an arrangement in place between the ATO and the operator, for which the candidate will perform the first four flights (aka Line Introduction Flights). As you don't fly for a ZFTT-approved operator at the moment, you won't be able to fulfill all the prerequisites to have a ZFTT type rating issued.
