How many hours did *you* have before starting the ATPL theory?

I had 120 hours.
It would have been easier if I had been able to start the ATPL thoery soon after obtaining the PPL/Night, methinks this would have helped with continuity, especially if you're not flying as regularly as you would like.
Good Luck!

(13/14) Skeet's a clever git tho!
I had 120 hrs and yes, doesn't make a sod of difference for the writtens. Instrument stuff helps, but really a keen background interest in flying will save a lot of hassle at basic stages.
Flying hours only really helps when you get to the flying stages - not too many tho, as you end up struggling to iron-out any bad habits you've taught yourself!

I had UK PPL with about 500hrs when I got this daft idea that I should proceed enthusiastically towards the UK ATPL via the national exams before JAA made things woefully more difficult. Whether or not in fact JAA exams are more difficult is debatable, I suppose, and I am now immune from the need to find out.
I devoutly hope.
But I do not think that my previous experience made a lot of difference to the effort required to pass the exams. They are just bloody hard work. The earlier you start, the earlier you are likely to finish the resits !

ZIP TT, I'm not shure though if I would have been better of with some actual flight experience before starting the written CAA stuff... My opinion was: finish it part by part, you'll get there anyway if you really want to!
