Flight Simulator
I realise this is a long shot but here goes...
My team at work have been instructed to go on a 'team building day'. Of course we all want to spend the day in the pub! However we really ought to do something worthwhile and we came up with the idea of going on a flight simulator.
The funds available for 14 of us are fairly limited so I wondered if anyone out there would know of any flight sim training facility that might be able to accommodate us.

Not quite what you are suggesting, but would this be within budget? They've got a simulator there as well, used primarily I think for instructor training. - but why use a sim if you can have a real flying machine for not much more money?

You may well find that many commercial flight sim operators will no longer be in a position to assist in the way that they were. Since September 11, the regulations on a lot of airline simulators have been tightened up, and ad-hoc visits are no longer available in the way that they were. My company used to frequently host such sim details, but now we have a requirement that all users of the flight simulators hold at leas a commercial flying qualification......however, there may be some other non-airline commercial operators who may be able to help....there used to be a Trident simulator near to Biggin Hill, and I believe that there is a Phantom sim somewhere in Yorkshire.....hope you manage to sort it!

Check out the Trident Sim close to Biggin Hill. They were working on the Bucanner simulator last time I was there a couple of years ago.
Its not too pricey at about 70 quid per hour.

Thank you all for your replies. Personally i'd go for the microlight option but not sure if it's everyone's cup of tea! Read a great book about this called Propellerhead.

Kapella, that budget would get you a day in the Trident Sim with an instructor plus have change for beer and curry afterwards.

Elite IFR Simulator V8.0
Hi
I've got Elite IFR sim V8.0.
At the momemt I have a choice of 3 twins.
Planning on doing my IMC shortly and was wondering does anybody know where to get extra planes from/ How to load them into ELITE.
I will probably be doing the IMC in a PA-28 warrior.

From experience, getting add-ons for the Elite 8.0 is like pulling hens teeth in the UK.
Your best bet is to buy direct from elite in Switzerland, I think i paid 99 euros for the King Air add on.
Incidentally, what Throttle/Joystick setup are you using, because for wahtever reason, you don't get the Throttles, RPM levers or mixture etc on screen in version 8, not for the Add ons anyway.

Hi all,
Am considering getting hold of a copy of MS flight simulator 2004 and a joystick, as Ive heard it is pretty realistic and could help with actual flying training.
Does anybody else out there reckon there is an advantage to be gained from using said programme?
Id imagine that the feel of a real plane is totally different, but that it might help with learning the use of instruments and navigational procedures?

I found it useful for my MEIR I must admit....although I don't think many pilots like to admit that MSFS is anything like real life. Even more useful was MSFS with the 767PIC add-on for training prior to my MCC on the 757 sim.
Major downside of MSFS? No dip on the ADF.
I found RANT and MSFS probably covers alot of the material for the IR, IMHO.

I've been using msfs and rantxl to keep my procedural knowledge up to speed. Rant xl is good for learning your holds and joins, adf/vor interception and tracking. You can hide the a/c and just use the needles to tell you were you are and how to join the facility.
Wtih msfs you can put all this together and fly a dept and arrival if you like. Again its good for needle watching and procedural knowledge. The problem I found with it is that it is very twitchy in pitch and very difficult to regulate the speed properly. If your not practicing IF skills and during these dark months waiting for an interview and sim ride I think its a good idea. I've been practicing every day for about 2hrs for the past 4mths inc IMC instruction but having a break now.
