converting to JAA licence.......HELP!

Help me...I want to go home!
I am currently the proud holder of a brand new South African commercial licence. The problem is, I'm a UK citizen and now want to go home and earn money flying.
After speaking to approved training organisations in the UK, they say "give me 15000 quid and it won't be a problem".
15000 quid IS a problem!
Unfortunately the JAA have not yet got their act together on a number of issues - the one that irks me is licence conversions.
It used to be possible to convert easily to an Irish licence which was then directly transferrable with a JAR licence - unfortunately this loophole is no more.
Does anyone know a similar or better way to convert? After all, I have all the hour requirements of JAR and have been trained to an equal standard.
If anyone can help or advise or even just commiserate then please do!

mr.smith!

Mr Smith
For reasons I don't know, certain folk think you're a certain French ******.Which you are obviously not.
To answer your question - I'm afraid you're going to have to 'toe the line' & do whatever the CAA tells you to do, my friend.
As expensive (& crazy) as it is. Such is aviation.
May all good things come your way.

To clear anything up - this is the first time I have even SEEN these pages. Any similarities between me 'n' anyone living or dead is purely coincidence.
Thanks for the response though guys.
- I've recently heard via a friend of a friend's hairdresser's brother that there may be a route to convert to one of the Scandinavian countries CPL with ease and then transfer directly to the JAA one.
- any comments?
regards,
smithy.

I'm a UK citizen with a South African Com (as they like to call it over there!).
I have several European friends with SA Coms, some of whom are considering converting. I am pretty sure that I would have heard through the grapevine if there was a conversion loophole, and I've heard nothing.
It's crazy, as we all know, but unfortunately you have to pay up.
Maybe someone will take a test case to the European Court one day, and win. Until then, we are stuck with this complete nonsense.
As far as folk like Slipside are concerned - they are not the norm on Pprune, so don't be put off. To fill you in: Ronny is an amusing, occasional, poster who has a unique, anti JAA, ranting way with words!! Unfortunately, the younger and more intellectuallly challenged members of Pprune use his occassional postings as an excuse to use bad language and clog up threads.

your best bet is to go to the USA and be a rel pilot and forget stupid JAA. you are right about money. the JAA are more intereted in wallet than your training. if you have 150000 eu dollars you can do anything- comand concorde no problem. in fact the JAA are probably more interested in finding the average length of a pilots dick in the jaa or counting the average number of rivets found in a aircrafts wing. if you want any avation career advice you should com to any eu mcdonlads. there are many pilots working in these places with jaa ATP licenses.

Mr.Smith... Smithy ole boy.
I am in pretty much the same boat as you are. Well sort of . I am flying a non EU registered B727 based in Europe on a FAA ATP. Well problem is that it is a VIP airplane so there is very little flying involved and I would like to broaden my horizons so to speak, and work for an airline.
Problem is: Not enough hours for a straight ATPL validation ( pretty soon I do ) and not enough time to do a 6 month groundschool. I am stuck with this situation until it resolves and at the same time I am trying to seek other options.
Have a look at the North American forum as there is some conversation about this subject. Also have a look at the www.jaa.nl website for the regs to give you an idea.
As to this slipslide bozo...If you donīt know how to be constructive crawl back to the hole you came from. Also you could smell what you are showeling.
And btw I am not rochonner who ever he is.

Hey there...
Wish I was there, but then I run into all sorts of problems with Angolan embassies. In one they didnīt speak any english and the other said I have to contact the embassy in the region where I come from. So that sort of BS. Anyways I needed about 2000 documents and shots most of what I have done, but some I need to get from my home country and appear in person. And so far I havenīt had the time to do that.
Regarding the JAA validation requirments. I donīt remember them by hart, but stby and Iīll have them for you for tomorrow.
