Post aplicants and retirements per year

just a question i know it may not be the right time to ask questions like this due to the current downfall in the market but stastically

1) what is the % of pilots say this year will retire?

2) how many pilots would be required if the events of sept 11 didnt occur?

3) i heard many of the last generation pilots are coming to the end of there commercial flying careers and so there will be a shortage of pilots..(info from occupations handbbok)this is due to also this age limit thay have of 55 in many countries

apprecaite any feedback

Can't speak for the European market but in the U.S most major airlines already have over 10,000 applications on file for pilots.

While there will be a shortage of pilots in the future the shortage will be for qualified pilots (eg: over 3000 hours turbine, Jet PIC time) or so and the second sector will be the CFI sector because a lot of these pilots are being taken up by regional airlines.

The shortage is a great sales gimmick for flight schools and they are taking full advantage of it.While statistically in some was you could argue there will be a shortage, on the whole it is nothing more than a sales gimmick.

Just work on your license and keep building your experience. That has been the only way and will be the only way to a successfull pilot career.
