I have absolutely no intention on coming back to the UK to pursue a career in aviation so would not be interested in taking the JAA qualification for that reason. As I have mentioned on more than one occassion, I would like to work for an airline in Asia. No intention of returning to the UK. I have been told that the FAA qualification is suitable for a commercial job with the larger Asian carriers. Is this the case or would another type of qualification be more suitable? Obviously I'm finding it very difficult to get a straight answer on this subject. I would very much appreciate any guidance.

Yes it is.
Once you're hired you will go through a conversion or validation process to obtain the certificate of whatever nation you are flying in.

Fantastic. I had been told that by another pilot. Nice to get a straight answer from someone for a change! Cheers.

Has anyone heard of this school?

AM Flight School

AM Flight School

Their course fees seem very very cheap.

hi alexander, maybe this is what you should look at: Aviator Flight Training | The leader in FAA Pilot and Flight Training

i know that there has been a lot of negative comments about this school.. but honestly, which school doesn't? i have done my research and have spoken to a fair number of airline pilots who have graduated from here.. in the end, it doesn't matter what school you go to, what matters is what course you'll be doing, whether 141 or 61, whether the school is accredited, whether there is enough aircrafts, and how many hours of multi-time you get. i'm currently pursuing my faa part 141 cpl/ir/me here in the us in a well known school, but have decided to switch to ariben after a long deliberation and research. of course, there are other choices such as atp, but they are just a tad too expensive..

That is very cheap,
Their website has a couple of links that don't work however;
Curious as to why they charge the "dry" rate for the aircraft in the PPL or IR course @ $49/hr while the "wet" rate is $79.

As someone recommended to me once before, the search tool will give you a lot of information on various JAA courses in Florida. But it still wont make it any easier to decide which school to choose.

Do airline companies judge you by the calibre of the flight school you attend? ie would it not be better to have qualified from a well-known and recognised school than a small school that nobody has heard of in the middle of nowhere?

To AlexanderH and chiccopilota:

I recommend you Skymates in Arlington, TX. Based on KGKY, it has a nice fleet, a lot of instructors and is not too busy at the moment. If you google for "skymates", you'll get many positive feedbacks from people who had experience with it.
If you'd like to have further information, please send me a PM.

p.s. chicco ci sono molti italiani alla skymates, perfino il proprietario!

Hey AlexanderH

I am in Naples right now not in NAC but EAA-fly dot com EAA is a great school with good instructors (high hours) the planes are good (DA40FS/CS/DA20) and for your ME they have DA42 All glass
when you have ground school it is you and your instructor, some like it some donīt I think it is cool.
Why Naples well you have a simi busy airport jet going in and out NAC, London Aviation and Europe American Aviation.
so also allot of student here, great nature golf of Mexico to take a swim
(in you like to swim with sharks)
You can call me over skype if you like to know more just let me know, I send you my skypenick

Well, they don't seem to be on this list of Part 141 approved schools in Florida:
Federal Aviation Administration - Pilot Schools

and should therefore not be eligible to train non-US students.
Which is odd, since they have quite a few testimonials from the UK on their website.

European American Aviation - naples

As an ex-EAA student, Diamond aircraft , many with G1000 are really an excellent school.

You can turn up there safe in the knowledge that you can train at an honest top quality training centre where you will be treated like a customer.

Please avoid NAC.

I've just finished my ATPL ground school and i completed and passed the 14 exams in 7 months. I did it in NAC @ Naples. To be honest, i didn't like the school at all. They cant get enough of themselves saying they are the best. They are not at all. Their technique is the intimidation to the students. If you don't get good results, you wont get a job. You get out of line in class, we wont write you a letter of recommendation for your job interview....and a long ETC without mentioning that majority of the teachers aren't good at all. Why do i say this? I've been flying in several airlines in the USA and i didn't walk with PPL experience in that class room with no experience at all, not beliving all the lies that they tell you about the every day operations in the airline which only ONE teacher has flown for them. WAS BRUTAL! And another thing....their a/c rental is expensive and they fluctuate the prices very often with the increase of the oil. Once you have deposited money in you account, you cannot take it out. Great deal for them, but not for you in case you finish your trainig early.
I have to say, i finished my ATPL ground school as planned, loads of hard work and no messing around. Could i have done it only with bristol?maybe, maybe not. I've got the work done there, but i don't recommend it after all i have seen my colleagues go trhough in that school. Not to mention the commercial conversion.....they only have one airplane to do it, one guy to train for a whole class of 20 people. Wait list = over a month to start ground school and an average of 3 to 4 months to finish it... GOOD LUCK!

Hi Alexander H,
http://www.pprune.org/professional-p...ng-easa-3.html

But I wouldn't necessarily rule out Florida. Remember, there are good schools out there owned and managed from this side of the pond, catering for flight here. What counts is the quality of the instruction and I found that very difficult to gauge compared to what I was looking at on the net.
You kinda need to be cautious with pprune too!
As I said in the link visit the schools and speak to the students. You'll hear people slag off the schools with (yes, arguably!) the best reputation. Then visit them, speak to their students - THAT is how you'll know. If you make a choice from the web and speaking to the marketing department of the school, then you're not really taking a litmus test of that school.
