The graph looks less extreme when compared to disposable income, which is generally regarded as a better marker. Same general concusion, though. Figures showing a 10% drop in house prices on the year would suggest we're one third to a quarter of the way through the correction, although disposable income is also falling.

Good point Alex. There were times in this country when the higher rate of tax was 99%... disposable incomes is the key.

Things are bad. For quite a while I worked hard to make sure people understood what would come. I had to be persistent. There was a tremendous amount of positive spin to be overcome.

Right now I think most people get it.

So lets look at the upsides. Parts of the globe, South America, Middle and Far East will continue to industrialise and over the next 20 years Africa will sort itself out and become the next Chindia. The post war baby boom generation will die and the associated old age burden will ease. Just as BMW can now sell you a 177bhp 3 series that does 47mpg and overtakes better than a 1987 Ferrari 308 the world of airline design will evolve. There is plenty of headroom to increase the global fleet AND power them all on biofuel which is 100% replaceable.

Things will turn around. They haven't started to plummet yet. They will. But then they will recover. This is nothing that hasn't happened before.

An engine failure on rotation is a real bummer. But if you are prepared. Know what happens. Plan for it. Then its just another part of the job. Just a procedure to apply. Handle it correctly and your colleagues will think you are great at your job. The economy next year looks like a real bummer. Be a professional and handle it. Your career can still be great if you handle it correctly.

Many won't. Most of those don't read here. But you do.

Good luck,

some nice positive words WWW.

I reckon times like these sort the short term wannabie from the long term wanabie. There are plenty of people who have made a financial killing in the last few years and have decided to become pilots fulfilling a "boyhood dream" or because they think it sounds like "fun". time will tell how many are still current and/or motivated when things are looking rosy in the airline garden again.

having a dream and being committed are two very different things. I guess a combination of good planning, commitment and good old fashioned luck will see some of us through.

Cut your "I'm Jesus, the messiah" crap.

What is your record?
As a decade long moderator of this website, you have been paid by ads put on this website by type-rating organisations and integrated flights schools, filling your pockets on the back of student pilots who obviously indirectly pay for these ads.
Let's see: 40 ads at 350£/month + the small ads = 15 000£ a month.

WOW.
Well obviously most of the money goes to the owners of the website but that doesn't change the fact that you are promoting self-sponsored type-ratings and integrated flight training.

I'd be ashamed to even pop up and say that you are helping these pilots, let alone come up with your daily crap about housing and "sideshow oil".

Remember, the reason why we have stopped advertising on your website is because YOU have sent me that angry e-mail with all the crap stating that my company would be bust within months. Guess what? We're still alive. You have no sense for business, you are not professional and you certainly don't want to help any pilots on this website.

All you want to achieve around here is your additional income and get some clueless people to cheer for you.

I'm thinking of copy-pasting your posts on Airliners and see how you'd manage over there..
That'll be very funny to see.

WWW

Every time I read a post by you I get more and more depressed! However, you have clearly experienced it before and to be honest I think they're probably pretty accurate words...

However, can I just ask very nicely if you can stop using everyone's quota of full stops?!

Further examples of appropriate, well, I'm not sure of what they are, possibly punctuation marks(?) (Answers please!) are:

the hyphen: -
the semi colon: ;
the colon (anyone else giggle like a child or is it just me?): :
the comma: ,

And all would be suitable for use in many of the places where you use a full stop.

Save the full stop from extinction - stop WWW from using them all.

I favour the Jeremy Clarkson school of writing. 7 to 9 words per sentence.

With the odd 42 word paragrpah with two inclusions and a twist.

Alitalia - the Italian version of BA - has filed for bankruptcy with 40% of its staff facing the loss of their jobs.

We aren't anywhere near the winter bankruptcy season yet!

This is exactly why I'm leaving my Airline job and starting college in September instead of starting my ATPLs. BRING ON THE A LEVELS!!

Certainly no financial comparison here I think.

Alitalia

Alitalia filed for bankrupcy to start the procedure of transporting his logo and good assets to the new holding that will own AZ and Airone as well. making it the biggest italian player and a nice partner in the AF KLM giant..
40% of the GROUND workers will loose jobs and will go to other state companys such as Finmeccanica and Government institutes.
The operations will continue with a shake down of planes and old crew , nothing compared to a Sabena or Swissair i hope of course.
Alitalia is still Alitalia for now

Well forget your graphs and armchair economics, I note with interest that the "Upturn" thread is now languishing in page 6 of the forum

Maybe I should start a thread entitled:

"Growing evidence that anti-doom monger wannabees have finally smelt some coffee"

A bit too soon I think........

To be fair I can't quite work out how it lasted as long as it did, or how it grew to its current size. It was supposed to be a piss-take after all!

As an aside, I drove past Boeing's wide body plant this weekend. Usually there's a good mix of world airlines in the "ready to collect" line, this time there were only Emirates and Chinese airlines.
