Pilot Recruitment International

Hey Ricky,
I am glad you are having a great time out there. I am heading over in June. I just had my meeting with Eddie the recruitment director and got accepted. I have to say I am excited to get over and start. Sounds like a great place. I have been to alot of schools around Europe, mainly Ireland and England, but Im most sure that pri academy will be the best for me. Considering they take care of all your needs and everything. Like no extra costs what so ever! Thats great...
I have a few questions I was hoping you could answer for me if you get the chance. I was wondering about the Medical. I have it booked in next month. Is it at all like the JAA medical. I have a class 1. Also I was just wondering if you dont mind saying, how much spending money did you take? I know PRI take care of accomadation, food and transport, however how much cash will I need to budget for weekends, ect. I have never been to Canada before so I have no idea of how expencive it is. My aunt has been and said Its alot cheaper than Ireland.

Thanks for your time mate.
regards,
Jamie

Ali - When you pay for training, it is you who ask the questions, not the other way round. Questions that need to be asked are: 1. How secure is my cash? 2. What guarantees are there that you will get what you pay for? 3. How much are extra hours if you need additional training? 4. How will they directly help you get a job at the end? 3. What is the discount for paying in advance and can you pay on account? etc... Others will have many more questions. And you give these as written questions and don't part with a bean until you get written answers on company paper. Remember, you are the customer!

I would highly recommend that you attend Vet school as opposed to spending a dime on an aviation career. This industry is absolutely horrible and I can't recommend it to anybody! Spent 8 years in the Air Force(wish I'd never gotten out), hired at Peidmont Airlines in Jan 1989 and spent the next 13 years sitting bottom reserve FO for USairways. Had a block of time for a year. Furloughed starting my 15 years. Lost my pension after USair went into bankruptcy for the second time in 2 years. Got hired flying DC-10's for Gemini at 35K a year. Resigned and went to Polar to fly the 747 classic. Fired963 of us) after the pilots went on strike. Rehired when it was settled. Furloughed 6 months later. Went to work for EOS flying 757's out of JFK. Schedule absolutely was horrible if you commute. On 3 off 2. Try to have a life if you commute. reinstated at Polar after a judge said we should never have been furloughed. Suspended from Polar when I didn't resign from EOS fast enough and TSA caught that I had 2 airline ID's. (couldn't resign as I was doing military duty) Finally resigned from EOS and heading for 747-400 school in DEN for Polar. Rumours already abound that ATlas will be making Polar furlough by the fall. All this for a measily 52K a year. Like I said "Go to vet school and save your money"
The only good jobs are SWA and Fedx but good luck with that.
So after 26 years of flying, 8 type ratings and 11000 hours I will still be bottom 747-400 F/O living in Maine and based in LA. It just keeps getting better. I never thought going back to US air would look like a good option to me while all my friends still flying there advise me not to come back yet as its still a horrible place to work.
Play the lottery, keep your fingers crossed, marry rich (not Rich the Flight Attendent), inherit $$$$ or rob banks but don't spend your money learning to fly unless you really dislike life! Sou8nds bad I know but it is reality. Good luck with your decision and if ya do fly...start getting to know as many FedX pilots as you can and pray they hire you. (I got turned down last year there)
Cheers

My advice being a current PRI student is similar to "tropicsmon" post...

Play the lottery, keep your fingers crossed, marry rich, and take 25g out of the money you've scrounged for the last 13 years to get a type rating on a 737 and fly for Ryanair.

(Last I heard they had direct entry to first officer with 200 hours. The old rumour mill has passed word down they pay 35,000eur and upwards in your first year, not including any applicable sector pay. Holy sweet Jesus, imagine that! I might even consider doing this at the grand old age of 22! (I'm going to open another bracket here by the way. And close it shortly. But not close the one before it which you'll notice I have not actually closed yet! Seems like some new fashion statement? Or is it a clever trick of trying to hint that there's an open ending here for us all...)

thanks ricky1 for your reply, but they are charging an extra $10,000 for a faa licence?to convert a caa licence to faa ,all you have to do is a written exam and pay a small fee not $10,000.anyway god only knows how many hours you need to get a commercial job with a caa licence.
