Blinkz, you have good corrected visual acuity.
Are you still fighting for the class one? Isnt there any methods of regaining full colour vision? How are you persuading the CAA for the Class 1?

Im 18 years old.

my prescription: RE VA 6/9 Spherical: +1.5D Cyl: 0.25D Axis: 180
LE VA 6/6 Spherical: 0D Cyl: 0.25D Axis: 180

the prescription is mild. The worry is that best correctad Right eye VA is 6/9 it does not improve to 6/6. A mild case of amblyopia, depth perception is good.

Like your self I love flying and will do anything for it. Infact, although I dont have the medical in hand yet, I have made the application for the ATPL course with the non-refundable deposit...all with high hopes for the medical to be granted (its been refused before)

medical class one>>>atpl's???

hi all , i finally finished off my PPL and am in a rush to continue with my training. My question is whether one needs a class one medical to do the ATPL'S and if so if a JAA maltese one is accepted.

Hi

Im afraid you do need a class one medical. Where ever you want to fly you have to have a medical from that particular country. ie if you want to fly in the UK you have to obtain your medical in the UK. I know its JAA and supposed to be recognised everywhere but each JAA member has different requirements for the medical.

If you intend to train in a CAA approved fto then check with the CAA and Maltese authorities if there is mutual recognition.
I know for example that the CAA will recognise a Class 1 obtained in Ireland.
It has to be converted of coursre and there is a fee as usual for this service.

IAA Class 1 Medical

I will be doing my initial class 1 medical in the Matter soon and have a concern about a health issue. I have mild asthma, I have to use an inhaler somtimes, maybe once a week.
Started to get fit and this is helping bigtime. I will come clean at the medical and will def tell them about it, but was wondering could this mean I could fail the IAA medical.
I realise this has been covered before but would like to know if any one who has done the Irish medical with similar circumstances.

Been through the same issue. The IAA medical examiner has become quite strict on this. I understand I passed the medical according to the mater, but the IAA were not happy. What I had to do, and what you may have to is: get your GP to refer you to a consultant respiratory (sp?) physician and have him give an opinion on whether your asthma is well controlled or not. He will examine you and you'll have to schedule a spirometry test for him to review.
Using the inhaler once a week means you should have no problem passing, you may just have an extra hoop to jump through.
It may also be worth your while doing this in advance, being able to produce the report and having it included in your file when sent to the IAA may save some time.
Of course this cost 50 for my GP, and about another 300 I think for a consultants visit and his interpretation of the test, on top of the medical, but if it means you pass, well there's no price on that.

Is my medical valid in spain.

I have a greek jar-fcl medical and I want to convert my FAA ATPL in spain do I need to retake the medical in spain (country of issue). I know this is possible in the U.K but I'am not sure if its so in spain-

Class 1 Medical

Hi everybody!

I'm sure most of you guys here have taken the Class 1 medical. Can anyone explain it to me, i.e. why it takes so long and costs so much? What exactly is required of me? I need a Class 1 medical certificate to start my integrated course soon.

Medical

Hi There - I had mine at Gatwick last year - it does take at least 3 hours.
A) Firstly you change into a robe and have to go around like your on holiday for the morning.
B) There are so many test. eg the eye test takes a good 45 mins. Its very thorough and done by a friendly guy
C) Electrocardigram take a long time
D) Many other test inc. ears, body movement, blood
E) A friendly chat
F) Some waiting in between.

Good luck - its not fun - but a clean bill of health at the end - you hope!

Its expensive because everything in aviation is a rip off! I had my initial a couple of months ago. They want to know -

Hearing - across 500-3000hz under 20db damage (allowed 35 @ 3000)
Kidneys - not diabetic
Eyesight - not colour blind and to a reasonable standard, with lenses as required.
General look over - dont worry about this. I pickled my liver through uni and didnt make a damn difference. Dont do it now mind.
ECG - looking for heart murmours etc.
Haemoglobin - check for iron deficincies. Youd know if you had this.
Cholesterol - check purely for your sake. If high issue warning. Stay off the kebabs and pizza!
Peak flow - asthmatics are allowed, but not chronic asthmatics. Need to peak flow somewhere over 350. If you cant make that you can barely walk in the CAA building as it is.

Remember people are passing the initial well into their 40's! renewals are far less strict.

Sorry for the sarcasm, but anyone should pass unless they have a condition that they would obviously be unfit to fly in the first place.

Try www.caa.co.uk, and click on medicals for further information, or call their Gatwick number on 01293 573700, they are very helpful if you have any questions. You can also book your medical on this number.

Just a word of advice – eyesight seems to be one of the biggest stumbling blocks.

It’s worth getting an optician to check your eyes before you go to Gatwick – you can print off the class 1 eyesight requirements from the CAA’s website to show them.

For around £15 they should be able to tell you whether your vision is good enough, which is a lot cheaper than paying the CAA £400 just to find out you can only get a class 2.

Medical query

Hi
I all set to leave uk next week to continue my flight training after not doing alot of flying for last couple of years.Got my class 1 medical certificate out yesterday to find that it was valid from 16th september 2002.As far as i know this then drops down to class 2 after a year unless renewed.My question is : Does it stay valid as a class 2 for 1 year or 2 years?
