737 TR Preperation.

Hi

I hope people could give me some suggestions on how to prep myself for a TR course. We didnīt get much material because it is mostly to be studied were they have the mock-upīs and manuals. I just do some random brush up with airlaw, performance and so on. Could anyone who has gone through the same give some input.
Thanks

Sit back relax and enjoy the ride

You do not have to prepare to much. The number of information is not to overwhelming, I bought panel posters, additional study materials before my own typerating course, which i really didn't need when it came to it.

Use the before mentioned website and look through the 737 panels to get to know roughly where the different systems and knobs are placed on the panels. Also read about the main systems; pressurisation, electrical, flightcontrols, hydraulics and fuel, to get to know the basics of these systems.

The sim sessions are great fun, but the top of the cake is doing the basecheck on the real aircraft (when you haven't flown a big jet before), actually the 737-500 i flew for my basecheck was the only real aircraft I flew all last year, 5 good landings and 1 so so .. pretty good!

klavsstig,
Be on your toes, during the course.
Get to know the profiles, call-outs et.c. really well.
When I did my T/R, I had things around me that took time away from studying beforehand. (Newborn twins and a messy 6-year-old. )
I tell ya man,....I suffered all the way through my T/R-course!!
Ended up taking an extra session, just to be sure to pass skill-test.
Which I did, by the way.
Then came the fun part, as mentioned earlier; The base-check! Then you can enjoy the ride!!
PM me if you like and I'll try to help you as best as I can.

Read B737 Cockpit Companion by Bill Buffer, enabled me to fly through the CBT training that much quicker.. got home before the rush hour traffic

It is a fecking excellent read, thorough and comprehensive. Both myself and many distinguished captains I fly with still use it on the line as a 'second' QRH if you like. Transair do it for Ģ30, you can probably find it cheaper elsewhere.

I managed to get through my course using the official Boeing FCOM/QRH etc. and the unofficial 737 simulator survival manual which is a fun read, covers flows, profiles etc. as well as where people usually f... up during the checkride http://www.utem.com

Sit back relax enjoy the ride, what I mean is do not get all wound up about it, enjoy the course and study.. no need to freak out.. personally I didn't find it to hard.. just be well prepared, also for the sim sessions. I spent two hours before each sim session to study what would be covered during that session, read the reference documents for each item on the lesson plan and there wasn't to many nasty surprises

Thanks for your answers.

Did any of you get any positive response after aquiring the TR (Those of you with low hours ).

Iīm a bit concerned if there will be to many typerated guys this spring/summer, and I wonīt pay for anymore training etc.

Has anybody had some luck with the recruitment agencies or is it only for experienced crews ?

Bregards

The general feeling amongst people is that with no time on type, a TR is not going to get you anywhere. It did five years ago, perhaps even two years ago, but today is a different story.

But, there seems to be an awful lot of guys and gals getting their 100 hrs on type, so I can see that, at sometime in the future, the 100 hrs on type will be the absolute minimum.

500 hrs on type seems to be the magic number, and if you look at the ads from agencies, then you'll notice the number 500 crops up everywhere. Hence, unless your TR has some very good connections, you could be joining the end of another long queue.

There is a get-out clause to all of this. If you know people well in an airline, you can circumnavigate all that nonsense and expense.

Try http://www.cpat.com just had a look at their demo .. seems quite good .. however it is a bit expensive considering you may get access to one anyways during your TR course. You may ask the TRTO to send it to you a couple of weeks in advance, before the course start.
