Calling all former APP graduates
I would be grateful if you could pm. me about your experiences at Oxford, and also what stage of employment are you all in?
Would like a general view from all of you guys. Ive been to the school and spoke to students currently training, but only to very few people who have actually graduated.
Please everybody dont turn this into a Modular vs integrated debate. Been there done that etc
Cheers

If any graduates would like to let me know how they're doing I'd be more than grateful.
I too am looking at jumping on the Integrated bandwagon and would like to see how many of you are now flying for a living.
Seems strange the only posts we get on here are from modular students

Interesting... not one post from someone who's done the APP course. Of course, it's possible there have been dozens of replies by private message, but......
.....is it not reasonable to assume that anyone who's completed the course is quite likely not going to read a forum on Pilot Training? Even more so for those lucky graduates who have airline jobs.

I am a graduate from Oxfords APP program.
Finished early summer, took 4 months to get a job and another 3 months waiting to start, which I think is pretty good.
Without going into the details of Oxford which are posted all over this web site, I will say to any person who is about the start, YOU have made the right decision. The teaching and facitlities at Oxford are amazing and with the continued modification to the APP course are always trying to keep ahead of the game.
A word of advise for those starting. Write off your social life for the 6 months of ground school. I'm not saying dont go out or have weekends off but dont make plans in advance as the week you tought you may go see your girfriend or family may be the week you have had a lot to learn in ground school and need to put in extra hours at the weekend.
I would say after lectures most of my course did about 4 more hours study a day as a mimimum and then at weekends did about 8 hours a day study. This extra effort to commit to studying for 6 months almost solid will give you the edge as when you leave you will all have a frozen ATPL the only thing to distinguish you will be your ground school results and flying grades.
Besides there will be plenty of time to make up for the lack of social life once you get out to Arizona.
Please dont be put off by the work in ground school everyone feels daunted in the begining but you will make good friends and help each other on the way.
Good luck to you all, it is the perfect time to start your new career.

Are you sure about this? I did solid feedback 3 weeks before each set of exams and that was more than adequate to give me high averages.
It is hard work and i had a lot of people telling me i would have no life during the course, but it was opposite in all honesty as most nights were spent in the local with my new pilot mates, albeit discussing flaps and straight in approaches after a few Kronies....

I am well aware that some people do just do the feed back and that they pass all the ground schoolexams. But you cannot rely on the question bank not changing as it did for the Gen nav exam a year last sept. ( I think it was that month anyway, not too sure)
I am just speaking from my own exprience and that of 2/3 of my course where we did put in a lot of work to get that extra 3 or 4 percent.
Any how the whole point of my reply was to confirm to those who choose Oxford as a training school that I was a very satisfied customer and an insight to the work ahead.
Besides I am sure you did more study than just feedback, but maybe not as much as the people passing with a high 90's average.

carbheatout without wishing to stamp on your achievment, I don't think that your ethos of 'just doing the feedback' is a particularly good one........
Certainly, there is a lot of feedback in the JAA exams, but it is by no means watertight. Maybe a little while ago yes, but the question bank is mutating very fast and you really need to know the subject now to get high marks.......also, if you go to interview and you get technical questions on a subject, you aren't gonna have 4 answers to choose from, you are gonna dig yourself a hole if you try to answer something that is beyond your 'question bank'.
Personally, I'd rather have no life for 6 months and i'm sure almost everyone here at oxford would agree. Perhaps the fact that you weren't willng to sacrifice yours says something...............just a thought...............
p.s. arizona was AMAZING!

I feel I have started something off with the talk about how much hard work ground school is: It is hard work and your social life will become your follow students on your course and you will probably not go more than a couple of hours or so with out mentioning a/c ...'high speed flight' as an example.
But although you will have to study you will have the best 15 months ever at Oxford and you will have memories and make friends for life.
The training you are about to start is amazing and many people would love the opportunity to do what your about to do.
So Good Luck to all about to start.
PS Arizon was fantastic, make the most of your time over there as it goes so fast.
This may not be totally accurate but is an idication of Jobs post Oxford.
APPcourses started on course 226 and I think 240 are around finishing right now.
226 to 233 all have jobs bar many be one or two people in total.
234 to 235 over half have jobs on each course and some are awiating interviews.
236 to 238 most have jobs ( these courses were alot smaller only 10 people, as opposed to 234 and 235 having about 20 people)
Please dont shoot me down if I am not totally correct, but I should not be too far off the mark. Anyone who can give more detail be my guest.
Hope this is of some use.

yeah second that. groundschool is not social death. I put in about 3 hrs each weeknight after lectures and if i'm honest not much more over a whole weekend. I went home to vist the gf every 2wks and when I did stay in oxford on the weekends, usually had a good night in town with coursemates. Just work hard, party hard eh?
Scottsdale was unbelievable, nothing like flying over the grand canyon in a warrior older than you! New starters might be going over to good year airport though, but rumour is you get 5 months there, not the 3 I had.
A great 17 months for me
