Cardiff flying school
can any one help me - I booked a lesson at cardiff flying school as a start to my aviation career
When I arrived I was unable to gobecause they had no fuel and not enough money in the bank to purchase any.
I really would like to train at Cardiff and I was wondering does any one know what is happening there - is this just one of those normal things or does any one have any information about the viability of the school.
Any other recommendations for 0 - ATPL - I hear there are good schools in Bristol and Gloucester
Is it normal in avition for schools to go bust or am I being over anxious

I assume you were not tempted to pay in advance for a substantial discount - I hope.
A number of outfits have ceased trading as they ran out of money. You are NOT being over anxious. Strictly pay as you go only.
Take care.

Hiya David,
This thread is right up my street being a member of the afformentioned club!
Saying that I have to be a member to get access to the privately owned aircraft that I fly. I have given up flying Cardiff Club aircraft for good, on cost basis, its got prohibitively expensive over the last few weeks. Some club members have been grounded due to rising costs in hiring!
I have to sleep for a few hours this morning (coming off a week of nights at work), but I am flying later on this afternoon so will try and probe for some information and maybe post something in reply on here or send you a private message. I'll point this post out to the instructors, they may want to reply also.
Certainly hope they have fuel... I need to fill my aeroplane up!!! Otherwise I'm staying with my feet firmly on the ground, this after getting the aeroplane back from a six week annual.
I'll also re-iterate what ecj says above in his post... Do not pay up front for any training. Not just at Cardiff but anywhere else really. Do the mobile phone style service, "Pay-as-you-go". On the other hand I'm nearly sure they don't offer discounts for bulk payment anyway at Cardiff.
Best wishes,
Charlie Zulu.

Hi David,
Just a quick update.
The Cardiff flying club definately had fuel, they filled my aeroplane up no problems this afternoon on account.
There is a meeting on Sunday in two weeks time. Maybe more information available then.
As for schools in Bristol and Gloucester, I have heard good things about them as well. Also have you thought about Swansea? One of my initial instructors six years ago is now working at Swansea (he's an examiner).
Best wishes,
Charlie Zulu.

I flew at Cardiff too and found them a decent bunch, hope things go well there.
Haven't been there for a while but t my knowledge they do not do professional ratings, only PPL/twin/IMC etc.. So for 0-ATPL you will have to go elsewhere anyway.
Aero's are based at Glos and Filton and are excellent, I did my CPL with them and actually left CWFC to become a member at Aeros, great fleet great instructors.
Bristol Flying Centre at BRI have an excellent reputation also, but I never trained there and so can't really comment.
I did however go to Bristol Groundschool, which really is a superb place, I would highly recommend them for your writtens.
Regards and good luck.

a friend of mine has received a letter from CWFC asking for each member to please contribute £300 to the club as they are in £250,000 debt.
expecting a fax from him any day now, anyone else had a letter?
