Talking The Class of 2002 - Any plans for this year?

Hi peeps,

after a few months lay off I've got back to flying, having bankrupted myself with a new toy (Impreza which just had to have some more power added) and various house modifications which have eaten up the Senndog's GDP.

Now, I can spend some dosh on more frivolous pursuits like flying so my plans are:

A few trips to visit our continental neighbours.

A flying holiday in SA - you wouldn't believe how cheap it is to rent aircraft there.

I'm also toying with the idea of doing my IMC but that depends on cash as much as anything else. Having just completed my check ride for our club's 172 it just seems that it's that time of year to start thinking of flying again, so I'm wondering what happened to the likes of Evo and Hersham Boy who also completed their PPL last year (and others).

Anyone got any plans for the coming year?

Cheers all.

Abolutely!
  • Just got back from trip home to Australia which included 12 hrs flying there, mostly in Sydney area
  • Have trip to Lubeck in Germany planned for May Day bank holiday log weekend (anyone interested to join with another aircraft can email me! mailto:[email protected])
  • Caernarfon or bust! Over the last two years, my mate A. and I have planned to fly to Caernarfon, hopefully via spectacular Welsh hill scenery, on more than one occasion, only to be thwarted by the wx every time - so maybe this year...!?!
  • Project Propeller - this year up in Yorkshire at the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington on 28th June, see http://www.projectpropeller.co.uk/ - a VERY worthwhile cause!
  • Hope to make it to Blackpool and Lakes again - most scenic trip of last year!
  • And, not sure if this counts, expect to get IMC this year (yes, I know I said that lasy year....)

(B*gger - just realised the thread was intended for "class of 2002" - I cheated as I got mine in 2001...)

Yeah, I've had a couple of months off due to crappy weather, but I'm making plans too Current thinking is to convert on to the Robin, do some upside-down stuff, expand the list of places visited and maybe, just maybe start on the IMC. Probably leave that until next year though...

And nice car, Sennadog. Should have gone for the Lancer Evo7 though...

Hi

Also a graduate of 2002 (late 2002). Now that I have my PPL, I plan to spend some time enjoying the fruits of the labour visiting other airfields and maybe get to a flyin or two.

Also want to try other aircraft as most of my training was on a PA28.

I have also just started the IMC course.

Time may be against me for the first 6 months 2003 as I won't be able to get to fly during the working week due to work pressure.

A bit disappointing to see so few freshly minted PPLs from last year still around - hopefully when the "flying season" gets back into full swing in the UK peeps will resurface.

Evo - how did I know you were going to say that?

The recent thread on Spin Training has also reminded me that this also needs to go on my list so I'll have to sort that out as well.

Well.... I think I just about fall into the class of 2002. I took my GFT in December 2001, but didn't get my licence through until 2002.
  • Finish taildragger conversion
  • Do more spinning
  • Do more instrument flying
  • Win BWPA Chairwoman's Challenge (came joint 3rd last year)
This is all dependent on me finding a job though.

Did my GFT on Dec 28th, so just about in 2002, though the paperwork, obviously, did not come through until 2003.

I think the priority for this year is IMC/Night .......... money permitting!

Would love to do buy a share, but its unlikely (flying, house, etc.) that the capital can be released for that this year.

Still maybe there'll be an opportunity for cost-share on hours building.

Well after the winter off as well, my plans are:

Head out to the states in April for a bit of hour building for 10 days or so, possibly a bit more multi time, then back to the US in the summer to finish off the FAA CPL. My masterplan this summer is to fly a Seneca from the US west coast to Europe and back. It will be an expensive trip, but hell of an experience....

I have found an FTO over there who are willing to rent me the aircraft, on a very good dry rate......now all I need to find is the cash

Cheers

PFLsAgain,

You may want to check this thread before you appoint AB to the position of getaway driver!

I got my PPL in July 2002 and finished IMC/Night in December. Went up again for the first time last Sunday to begin conversion onto an Arrow. Great fun but can't believe how much you forget in a month or two. Now need to get back to flying regularly.. hopefully.

Hmmm...I'm being cast in an unfair light here!

The "White Van Girl" thread was composed in a deliberately melodramatic style, as befits Jet Blast. I caused no accidents, and returned the van without a scratch. The main cause of my concern were the narrow country roads near my parents' house, and trying to navigate round Birmingham.
All complaints should be lodged with my legal representative...

PFLs was given plenty of opportunities to change her mind, but given that the only thing I was ever within striking distance of was my own car, we were all safe. (All: PFLs, AB, and AB's car). Oh, apart from those aircraft.

Now... if we are going to rob a bank it may be worth considering a car where I can work out how to open the doors a little faster.

Hey sennadog... wondered where you'd been.

I had about 6 weeks with no flying after GFT in Oct, but then wx got a bit better and I got converted onto the club Archer. With 4 seats and 120kts cruise, there's no stopping me.

Have done IMC ground exam and about 3 hrs flying (pretty much in REAL IMC conditions this weekend!).

Sooooo... IMC completion is on the agenda, and a cross-channel checkout and then the world's my oyster. Weather permitting

I really fancy doing aero's but the other half has threatened all sorts of nasties if I do... it's all those Pitts going up vertically off the deck that keeps the yearn high.

Am also planning trip to States where I was hoping to fly from Sanfran to Seattle but I think the regs may just make it too much hassle.

If you fancy doing some 2 pilot sorties, mate, email me and we'll swap mobiles etc.

Cheers
Hersh

PS. I also just bought a new car so the force has been weak with this one, as well

Well, my license arrived on my doorstep 30th December, so I guess I was just about the last of 'Class of 2002' - din't think I'd make it for a while.

Anyway, number one on my list was to get over to the States, get the temporary FAA cert, get checked out and do a few solo hours. Just got back from that and it was worth waiting through two years of training! A couple of bad weather days, but got to do a few hours solo and visited some beautiful places.

Anyway, plans for this year include getting checked out on the clubs' Robin and C140, and perhaps even a couple of hours in the Cap-10 (if the C140 bit goes OK). Don't fancy aero's as such, just wouldn't mind a go in somthing I could 'throw about the sky' a bit more than the Warrior.

Also looking forward to my first fly-in at Duxford.

Later in the year, would like to go to Arizona and do some mountain/desert flying. Need to find some work first or I'll be grounded all summer!

Hersh, the regs. to fly in the states aren't that bad when you get down to it - get it done!

Well, I qualify for the class of 2002, but don't have quite such grand plans for the coming year as some seem to!

A vague plan to fly all the way round London (anticlockwise I think) is about as ambitious as it gets.

Time and finances permitting a start at IMC may come near the end of the year - but I want to get some "free" flying in before getting back to training. Priority No.1 - have some fun .
