ADS B and Flightradar24 app
Should I be showing up on a tracking app with my brand new Garmin GTX 335 Transponder with ADS-B? I assumed I would, but SWMBO cannot find me on her app.
The local airport approach radar guys are quite happy that they can see all my secondary data, so there is nothing wrong with the unit.
Just curious...

Drop flight radar 24 a line confirming you want your details shown including your HEX code and a photo of your own choosing, if you don’t send a photo they will use a stock photo credited to someone else, your choice!

I believe if it’s your personal aircraft then you have to give them permission to show it on FR24, that’s what I did when it didn’t show,
if it’s a public or company owned aircraft then it can be shown unless you formally opted out,

AFAIHBT using PAW and OGN can be used as agreement to show personal data, kind of abandoning your rights to protect your personal data (sorry if not cited correctly from a law layman).

Mine is a personal aircraft, but I have never had any contact with FR24, apart from seeing my flights on their webpage. Ivor, I think we both fly the same aircraft (Europa)
The aeropanes I fly from Redhill with Cubair *(such as PA-28 G-BUIJ) generally show up on FR24. I shall find out whether we gave specific permission or they just appear because they can.
Appreciate that there are things like the plodicopter that won't show up (for obvious reasons) but I can't really think that some of the middle eastern airlines actually gave explicit permission to be shown.

Before GDPDR you had to explicitly order your aircraft to be removed from showing in FR24, maybe there are remains from that times? Airliners do show up because things like GDPDR do not apply for tracking public transport. But, I guess some countries like US, Israel etceteras will have their 'special treatments' for portals like this.

A very helpful chap from FR24 advised me to go to their forum page and this is what I found. I hope they don't mind me quoting it in full.
<<The airplane information shown on FR24 is not transmitted by the airplane. The information comes from a giant database that has been built up manually during 5 years time. It's based on the unique Hex/ModeS code that is transmitted by the airplane.
Every day there are new deliveries and old aircraft getting new owners, so new information have to be added into database daily.
Help us updating the database by posting the Hex/ModeS code together with aircraft information in this thread. The format that will make it quick and easy for us to update the database is:
ModeS/Hex-code - always needed
Registration
ICAO Type code - sets the icon
Type
MSN
Airline / Owner - no individuals, trustees or leasing companies
Paint code (ICAO) - should reflect the livery of the aircraft - ICAO code only, not IATA code or name
Operator code (ICAO) - ICAO code only, not IATA code or name
First flight date - not delivery date - format year-mm-dd (if mm or dd is unknown replace with 00, for example 2012-06-00)>>
So I shall collect the data and add it to their thread, and see what happens after a few weeks.
I fly over a lot of bundu so would like people to know where I am (most of the time....)
Thanks for your answers.

Whereabouts are you flying?

treadi, my bit of bundu is the less inhabited bits of South Africa. We get good FR24 at airline cruising altitude and most areas have good connectivity down to around 8000', where I spend my time these days.
It seems there are enough keen FR24'ers in SA that they have installed the receivers in their home towns, so we have pretty good coverage.
But I take your point, this relies on line of sight for position finding, unlike the SPOT or Garmin or similar satellite based safety systems.

Good suggestion md, I'll have a look. It was installed professionally but you never know... It should be integrated with the GTN650 aerial I think.
