South Moor Farm Air Strip Help Needed Now.

3 days left!

Update. Small rewards on offer valid until 31st Dec 2020.

If you want to help but do not like putting bank details online you can send cash to Bob Walker, South Moor Farm, Langdale End, Scarborough, YO13 0LW. Rewards can be claimed when you visit farm.

Hi, I have been trying to establish a farm strip for the last 5 years. (Some small rewards on offer.)

I am not a professional pilot but have supported flying schools and airfields which have trained professional pilots. If you can help, please do so.

So far planning applications, appeals and consultants have cost £5000 per year over the last 5 years.

The planning authority is saying they will not consider a fifth application even with an Ecological Impact assessment so a legal challenge may be necessary if they do not change their mind.

I need £25000 this year to fund the Ecological Impact Assessment, planning application and legal fees.

A few friends, pilots and family have offered some financial support but I will need a lot more.

Any funds raised which are not required will be split between the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and other airfield fighting funds.

If successful I hope the result may enable other small flying sites to be set up.

For the full story visit my Crowd Funding page "David v Goliath"

Or my Facebook page for South Moor Farm,

Or visit the web site for South Moor Farm

Or the Flyer Forum.

If I do not obtain some support I can not continue to fight the planning authority and the final result could be used to stop other flying sites being opened.

If you can help please do so and tell other pilots and friends about the appeal.

Thank you in anticipation.

As I am a newcomer to posting on this forum it will not let me post the url's perhaps someone could add them for me.

Bob.

No wonder they refused permission.

I don't know many worse areas to have a runway.

And what are the factors or elements or arguments pro vs. contra? Or is it merely a matter of personal preferences?

Probably just a personal preference thing.

I like my runways to be longer, flat, in clear areas, away from forests, outside National Parks (where people have a reasonable right to enjoy nature without undue mechanical activity) and within easy reach of rescue facilities such as Fire & Ambulance. Other people may well think that this place is ideal. It would be a funny old world if we were all the same, but it's a funny old world anyway.

As an airfield location, this site seems (to me) to have nothing going for it at all. North Yorkshire is not exactly starved of suitable locations.

If you have a capable aircraft 550 meters of bumpy grass is fine.
If you live on the farm and can fly your aircraft from your own field it is great.
At the moment myself and three other local pilots have to travel by car to someone elses field to fly.
Two hours in a car on the road to go flying for an hour! This may be in a National Park but it is also an Area of Intense Aerial Activity.
The RAF, pipeline, electicity, lines hellicopters and Air Ambulance all use this area. A couple of light aircraft do not make much difference.
This will not be a regional airport, just a grass field with less than 250 movements per year.
From here I can fly to other airfields and support them by purchasing fuel and food.
Facilities - on site Guest House, Walking routes in Dalby Forest, Mountain Bike routes in Dalby Forest, Bike Hire, Bird Watching. Tea, Coffee biscuits. What more do you want?
Airfields are closing down new airfields are nearly impossible to open.
How do we inspire future pilots if they never see an aircraft that they may be able to fly even if they do not become professional pilots.

Other ways to contribute.

South Moor Farm Air Strip Donations.

I now realize some supporters are not happy giving personal and bank details online and prefer to remain anonymous.

If that describes you but you would like to help:-

Wrap a bank note in blank A4 paper put it into an envelope and post it to me. If you want any of the rewards on offer include a nickname or other identifier and claim the reward when you visit. Free tea, coffee and biscuits available for all donations.

You can visit Dalby Forest on Foot, Bike, Horse or Car but not in your aircraft - yet. See our Website if you do not want to pay the £9 charge in Dalby Forest.

R W Walker,
South Moor Farm,
Dalby Forest Drive,
Langdale End,
Scarborough,
YO13 0LW

Well, it was worth a try!

Only 3 days to go on my crowdfunder project.

No t enough support for a legal challenge.

I will try for a fifth planning application and will ask for letters of support nearer the time.

Hopefully with no cash involved a few more will write to the planning authority to support my application.
