Another thing to note in the Uk is that headset services who fix DC under warranty has some very old fashion views on customer service.
As for choice of headset - there is no single right answer. It is very true that in terms of quality you get what you pay for, but it is also a matter of personal preference, comfort, feel etc. It is also not worth paying big money if you only fly a few hours a year.
As I'm now flying at pretty much the legal maximum rate, I recently bought a set of Lightspeed Zulu. Expensive but worth every penny: unbelievable noise attenuation and very comfortable even after 9 hours. For a cheaper option, DCs have a solid reputation.

HSL
They were excellent when under Mark's control but ownership/management has changed and customer care has evaporated.
Used to be able to call in and talk with the boss and/or technician, now they won't let you call in. I tried to drop off an item but had to post it to them.

This article was posted somewhere else, I think on Pprune.
Anyway, it is a review article, possibly of use.

Which headset
I've got a pair of David Clark HC10-60 and I love them. Regular or irregular use, the comfort level of your headset can be a great distraction so don't skimp. Find something that's comfortable and go with it.

First time I've used Headset Services but I sent them my DC headset on the 8th. and today received back a new replacement. I don't see much wrong with that service either from David Clark or Headset Services.
Mad_Jock - bad news is they replaced my ****e X11s with another pair of ****e X11s
The noise cancellation on the X11 isn't the best and they're expensive but they're a good passive headset that I find comfortable. I think Jock is a little harsh on them.

2 x Bose A20 here.
Never going back.
The A20 is way better than the Bose X (which I had for 9 years) and the Bose X is matched only by the Lightspeed Zulu, or a D-Clark £600 model which clamps your head like a vice.
It amazes me how much sh*te there is in the headset market, but people just keep buying it, to save money which in the long term is insignificant.

headsets available
as the majority have said, david clarks are pretty bullet proof, i sell a lot of them second-hand, also do repairs, the only consistent fault i have noticed with the 13.4 is eventuallythe microphone boom gets weak and wont hold its position, but it can be repaired. contact me if i can be of service:- [email protected]
