Beach landing in New York City
Something isn't right about this story of a beach landing in New York City.

I hope they take his licence off him, that was just reckless and irresponsible.
just adding, He was probably just showing off to his passengers, Id like to know more about how he knew them etc as I think it might have been some macho attitude coming through. Also would be interested to hear if his pax were encouraging or discouraging the stunt

Letting alone enforcement action, which seems appropriate....
He'll begin to have a sense of the seriousness of this foolishness when he gets the bill for the aircraft being disassembled, and trucked back to the airport.

(Sorry to bring the Daily Mail into this - there's just a good pic of his part submerged Piper at the beginning of the article )

I cant believe after listening to the audio linked above (Thanks) how unproffesional his RT is or his complete disregaurd for passenger safety.
I hope they take his licence and jail him.

I wonder if this lot were on drugs or something. He jokes about having a rough running engine and a medical emergency but that he isn't declaring an emergency. He wants to land on a public beach, which may have people or other hazards on it, when he is only 3 miles from a major airport with full facilities. WTF? Throw the book at him! Either this was a dare, they were drunk or on drugs.

I don't think this was drugs.
I think this was an illusioned middle class muppet who has a severe egotistical problem.
Take his licence and pack him off to the fast food industry where his ridiculous 'alpha male' attitude can't do anyone any harm.
Idiots like him don't last long in prison before becoming somebody's plaything though, so that could work quite well too.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that he was taken into hospital a couple of days later. Now, that may be an effect, rather than a cause, and I'm all in favour of throwing the book at such stupidity... but there *might* be more going on than meets the eye.

I hate to say it, I really do, but it's about time to attach a minimum age requirement to flying. Too many kids up there goofing around. The all-time classic are these two (late) bozo's:
While I am a mere pre-solo student, I am wise enough to know that flying is serious business, not child's play.

I have been associated with some not youthful pilots, who have killed themselves doing foolish, and un-necessary things in planes. Part of my job is to establish where the red lines, and stated limitations should be for some parameters of aircraft. It can be hard to devote the time and text to explain why the limitations to pilots. You have to hope that good training, and a serious attitude will keep everyone safe, when you just don't have the space to explain why not to do that!
As for the two adventurous jet pilots, yeah, that was dumb. But, worse, having what, half an hour, or more? To plan a power off landing, and killing yourself in the attempt? That was the real horror there!
The goof beach pilot should losse the privilage to fly, face a penalty, and repay the costs incurred to return the aircraft to service - from a runway. And all of that should be widely publicised. If it is only the threat of punishment, which deters goof behaviour, at lest something did!
