google map with all your suggestions

Hi all,
I have just created a customised map with all your suggestions of airfields, and neighbouring pubs/villages - even with suggested walking route!

https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer...7UtCaFwBl0gnfY

As you continue posting new suggestions I will be adding these as well.
Enjoy!

Nuthampstead has to be one of the best. It has a nice 800m strip which is 200m from a café/club house for a shooting club and 5 min walk along country tracks to the Woodman Inn Pub.

Nuthampstead was a B-17 base in the war and some of the old airfield still exists. Also the Woodman inn used to be used by the Airman and so is full of wartime flying memorabilia and also has the memorial to the fallen in their Car Park.

The Woodman inn does excellent food as well!

Nuthampstead is located next to the Barkway VOR between Stansted and Luton, approx. 5 mile SE of Royston.

Thank you for this t.felici, great resource!

It's a shame there's very few in Surrey / Kent...

I have never flown to the airfield but can recommend Dornoch Castle Hotel for anyone taking a trip up north.

From Little Snoring airfield - ok part grass part hard - there is The Green Man, a short walk into the village.
No PPR required.

A few north of the border.
Dornoch, less than a mile walk into the village where there is a choice.
Easter, a longer walk, perhaps about about 1,75 miles into the village of Balintore for the Balintore Inn.
Plockton, again, under a mile to the village.
Lambholm, Orkney, less than a mile to the Commodore at Holm.
Knockbain, about a mile and a half to the town of Dingwall where there is a choice..
Easterton, about a mile to the Birnie Inn.

Alderney.
The whole island is within walking range. There's one pub there, they even do accommodation, and can get you the notams and weather to read over breakfast.

brilliant suggestions cotterpot , DeltaV, 300hrWannaB !
I have added all of them except for Easter which from google maps looks disused (DeltaV - have you been there?)...
Littlest Hobo: Dorchoch was already on the map but thanks for the endorsement

Yes, I've been there. The imagery on google maps is out of date and does not show the strip. What you're seeing is the wartime Fearn drome, now disused. Easter is a grass strip on the southeastern edge of Fearn, 24/06 and I think it is now about 900m in length. There is at least one YouTube video:

More info on their website Easter airfield

One minor comment on the Northern fields mentioned by DeltaV.

Easterton: sadly the Birnie Inn now only caters for pre-booked groups, no longer available for 'drop-in' traffic.

I have now added distances from the pubs, and ordered the airfields sorted by closest to pubs

here is the updated map with all your suggestions of airfields close to pubs, with distances shown, and in order of shortest walk

https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer...7UtCaFwBl0gnfY

Enjoy - and thanks again to all contributors. Keep suggestions coming and I will add them. Even if your favourite airfield is on the map I will add any insights/comments

Brilliant idea

Some more for your map:

Fadmoor-about a mile walk to the Royal Oak at Gillamoor

Enstone-about a mile to the Crown at Little Enstone

Kirkbride-White Heather Hotel, just on the edge of the airfield

Clacton-a squillion pubs/chippies etc

Northrepps-Foundry Arms and a longish walk or shortish taxi ride into Cromer if you fancy that.

Rosemarket golf course-land on the par five and have lunch in the clubhouse.

Abbott's Bromley-short walk to the Goat's Head, Coach and Horses and Bagot Arms

A couple more without pubs as such but nontheless very interesting places with eateries and airfield on site

Audley End-stately home

West Horndon-17 hectares of landscaped gardens, part of the National Gardens Trust

T.F.
I looked at your beautiful map just now and tried Binstead (I.O.W.) to find the pub.
A blue line shows the route Strip to pub, but I couldn't get up the actual distance read-out you mention ?
Perhaps you'd explain what I ain't doing right please.
