Logging Solo Hours During Training

Hi. When my PPL was issued, the CAA requested that all 'In Command' time in my log book was recorded as P1, referring to my hours both in solo circuits and XC's during training. Though I'd recorded times correctly in the respective column, I'd put in the Holders Operating Capacity as P.U.T. believing that while I was under instruction, whether solo or not I was pilot under training. During circuits, I've also recorded the 'in command' time on the same line as the dual (ie before the instructor jumped out) - eg Depart 18:00, Arrive 19:45, In Command 1:15, Dual or P2 0:30. If I need to create a separate entry for each detail (which strictly speaking I guess is correct) it will cause problems. What have others done/recommend? I think I'm going to have to re-write the log book.

Sounds like you didn't get the correct advice from whoever trained you and it would appear that nobody checked your log book before verifying it to be correct. That said, why not just cross out the hours in the Dual Column with a pen and write them in the In Command Column, its only a log book!

Or, you could stick two pages together and start again on the next page; I have a log book here from 1937 with the first two pages glued together.

Is that your log book Whopity?

All my hours were verified and signed off by the CFI and I think checked by the examiner.
Minor discrepancies do creep in,but they were corrected,a few minutes if I remember .

Thants the problem - for the circuit work, in one row I have hours recorded in two columns, all as PUT.

Usually the logbook will have instructions for completing it in the first couple of pages.

Each solo detail I send would have two lines, 1 for the flight with me with the student detailing his operating capacity as P. U/T, my name in the commanders column and the time in the dual or P2 column. The next line shows his POC as P1, the commanders name as 'SELF' or his name and the time in the P1 column.

As others have suggested, your CFI should have checked these against your training record before sending them off to the CAA.

As for re-doing it all - why bother? Simply remove all double entered times and then enter a new line after the last entry. Not seen anywhere that it says that all entries must be chronological...... (someones gonna prove me wrong now, you watch!)

Cheers

Duchess.

The CFI should check every entry anyway to ensure you have the exercises and hours . That was a big slip

Thanks

Yes Duchess - this is now my understanding. Why the school CFI didn't check I'm not sure - they were relatively new at the time and I think just finding their feet - my progress seemed very much self managed, so much so that I actually ended up having to work out the accounts for my training!!
