Revalidating / Renewing SEP

Hi folks,

I have a JAA licence from one JAA state and want to revalidate/renew SEP in another JAA state.....Has anybody done this ????

If i take the 1 hour test with a FI and then with my certificate and logbook duly signed and stamped I go to the local ARO will they enter the extension on a foreign JAA licence ???


Hope somebody can help, I've tried to decipher the JAA rules, but it's a nightmare and wish they could write in plain understandable language..

Yep. Any JAA examiner can sign the paperwork of any other JAA member state - within the privileges of his authorization of course.

What does help if you have a cross-border situation such as this, is to make a copy of the JAA examiners license/authorization and include this with the paperwork once you send it in.

I'm in the exact situation you describe, with a UK-issued PPL but flying and living in the Netherlands. The local Dutch examiner signs my paperwork and the forms are sent along with a copy of his license/authorization to the UK CAA.

I'm in the same situation as backpacker, UK PPL living in Sweden. It worked just like that. I didn't copy the examiners license, but it's a good idea and I will send that in next time too.

Last time I had to revalidate though, but a UK examiner I know just happened to be here on vacation . Would have worked just the same with a Swedish examiner in any case.

Thanks guys for the update, so now I know its feasible.

Please let me know who put the 2 year extension stamp on licence.. In other words I have changed my licence from french to italian.. Depending on where I'll be when I need to take the biannual check, I may do it in france...

If so, after the test can I walk to the french ARO office at the airport and ask them to sign and stamp the extension of a licence that is from another JAA state ???? If they don't, i'll be in trouble because the extension must be registered and appear on the PPL licence before the 2 year term expires !!!

Revalidation

The examiner makes the entries and signs the licence revalidation page so you do not need to take it to the authority.

You must also fill in the appropiate revalidation form. With regard to the UK administered licence, the examiner also completes and signs a certificate within the the UK revalidation form SRG1119 but that is then sent to the the UK CAA. The form simply informs the authority that you have revalidated, with the details.

If your licence is administered in Italy then you must use the appropiate italian form and send it to Italy or if administered in France to the french.

The forms used by each country are unlikely to be similar and therefore may not be accepted.

No they can't. Some states only allow their own examiners to sign paperwork and others will allow foreign examiners to sign with prior approval.

Spain and Italy as an example wanted copies of my Examiner authority before I was allowed to sign revalidation's and carry out LPC/LST's.

I would suggest that anyone wanting a licence signed by a foreign Examiner contact there own NAA first and check it is OK.

JAA PPL Bi-annual done in USA

Hi there

Just a little bit of info/help needed!!
I did my Bi-annual JAA PPL in USA last October, they put an endorsement in my logbook, and the instructor who did my Bi-annual signed my JAA PPL license, i have just found out today that it should have been an examiner sign this, not the instructor.
I have a Proficiency check booked on Wed for my PPL as although my hours were done and my Bi-annaul completed in October the school says my license technically is not current.
Just wondering if there is any advise on this or if anyone has come accross this before?

Well firstly I would submit an MOR stating the facts to the CAA the Instructor should have thier rating suspended for retraining for doing that in my opinion.

If the rating has lapsed you need to do a test with an examiner if not find a examiner ASAP to get it signed.

As MJ says, MOR the Instructor. Did you verify the Instructor was actually a JAA Instructor? As Instructors and Examiners we shoulder the responsibility to learn the rules and apply them correctly.

I have seen it a number of times where the Instructor has signed the licence. Invariably it has been Instructors in the US who have done this as they are used to working on a different system.

Your class rating is indeed invalid and all the flight that you have done since the rating lapsed have been technically illegal. The LPC will resolve the problem.
