The forum can send a message to your email address to inform you when someone sends you a private message.

The default in the User CP seems now to be OFF (NO).

I could have sworn that the default used to be ON!

The setting is in User CP > Settings & Options > Edit Options > Messaging & Notification > Private Messaging > Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages (tick).

Hi Jofm5

I had investigated my PC settings, elsewhere I found a solution to activesync - after starting activesync go into the PC task manager and kill off the rapimg.exe, then syncing works fine.

The problem with the roadangel install is that the self extracting archive from RA installs activesync and then immediately tries to use it to update the device ( before you can fix the issue ) - I would say that the product fails the BSI test

I think you mean rapimgr.exe which is part of activesync. From what I have read this application is what listens on your net connection for any LAN/WIFI devices - if you are connecting over a USB cable you may not need this and this is why killing that process may result in your stuff working. The process is probably hanging on access to your internet resources due to the firewall so you may find lowering your firewalls on your machine may cure the problem and allow the roadangel install to work.

Cheers

indeed, the error messages point to firewall issues, so I have it disabled, I also disabled my virus scanner.

next step is to
find my old XP cd and do a virgin install on a spare hard disk or find some kind gentleman who can zip up a copy of a working SD card ...

any help much appreciated

Sure, just copy all the files from a working RA onto a new card & stick it in.

Dave

Whoops- I thought we were still on Memory map which can be copied like that - I have no idea about Flymap / flyangel

Sorry!

Flymap new UK agent

I saw at AeroExpo that Pioneer Aviation are now the UK agent for Flymap:
Pioneer Aviation UK Ltd / 01873 850 973.
Seems to be a fairly new arrangement as there is nothing [yet] on their website about it.

is it a case of copying just the flymap files and folders and not the whole conents of the sd card?

Slightly off-topic, but relevant ...

Buy an HP 4700 PDA (there's one on EBAY right now for £90) : a tiny bluetooth GPS (e.g. EMTAC TRINE, £40) : and an extended battery for the PDA (£10).

You get a superb 4", outdoor-viewable screen, and the combination above will give you about 7 hours (yes, really) of usable time running Memory Map CAA VFR charts. It works beautifully - I've been using this combination for about 4 years with absolutely zero problems.

You can also run Tom Tom, Oziexplorer, Pocket FMS and a whole load of other stuff as well ....

After a lot of fiddling and faffing, I finally got MM working on my Road Angel and used it today to fly from Cambridge to Popham.

I have a KR2 with a lot of perspex, so I was unsure how easy it would be to see under strong sunlight. Without a shade I found it was usable but only just. Using my hand for shade, it was fine. Next step is to make a black plastic visor.

On the way back I went anticlockwise around the London TMA, pretty well following the M25. Tracking north from the Thames bridge towards Stapleford, I had a wee problem, the Road Angel screen went red and informed me that there was a speed trap ahead. I didn't alter my speed, so now I am waiting for my ticket from Essex Constabulary

re MM on the RA is it not a case of just using the button in MM on the pc to set up the RA then just export each chart to the RA!!!!!

or is there some convoluted way?

MM on Road Angel

It's not quite as simple as exporting the map - there's a MM programme that you need to load onto the Road Angel for it to work the maps.

If you have a road angel "adventurer" then the MM is already installed so downloading the map works fine.

The other little wrinkle is that the MM PC software doesn't see the road angel as a GPS - it's a "Device" so you have to find it on different menu option.

dbo, i have mm on the pc and have easily and successfully put it on pda's and a phone running windows mobile/ce.

what i want to know is would flymap run by just copying it to the RA card or does it need a key to activate it? has anyone heard of a flymap keygen or a crack for it?

i put RA on my phone, just copied the program and pasted it in works fine on win mobile, the flymap wants a key?

so the question is if i took the card out the flyangel and placed it in a RA 7000 would both run (RA will, i'm sure) or would flymap need a key??

i have bought a RA and will try and put Flymap on it by the copy and paste method. i'm sure if i'm successful you guys would be interested?????

Well presumably you have a legit copy of Flymap, and you're not actually asking for people who paid for their copy to give it to you free.

On the assumption that you paid for your copy of FlyMap, and that you paid for your RoadAngel, I don't see why FlyMap would not be willing to help you. They know how to make it work, since they already sell a RoadAngel. You've gone the expensive way of buying both pieces of equipment seperately.

Why wouldn't they want to help?

Those of us at PocketFMS are constantly helping people to get PFMS to work on other hardware.
