Instrument Rating changes

Hello all

I've heard rumours that the requirements for Instrument Rating training are soon to be changed. Does anyone know the latest on this?

Thanks

Do you mean other than that being discussed by FCL008?

The only thing which appears to be "definite" is a slight (about 10-20%) reduction in the ground school for the PPL/IR, which was worked out in committee several years ago but has been delayed by the UK CAA (which runs the IR/CPL writtens for most of Europe) till late 2009, for tech reasons ostensibly connected with publication of the question papers. This document is on their website somewhere.

There is a process working its way through EASA now, in a committee, so this means nothing if you are looking for certainty, because EASA is free to tear up any committee result. If this goes through, one is looking around 2012. It would be an ICAO IR with a reduced minimum prescribed dual training content, with emphasis on demonstrated competence a bit like the FAA system. I believe the last Flight Training News contained a summary of this objective.

If anybody offers you more certainty, ask them what they have been smoking
