Was that you?
Whilst in the air yesterday afternoon from Redhill to Compton at about 4.30pm listerning to Farnborough, heard a guy lost over Haslemere heading to Elstree. The weather really turned bad quickly (we had to divert to the North West and go around a horrid front coming from the South), was that you? I hope whoever it was got back home safely

I had that as well. Was just going back from Blackbushe to Leicester after a meeting at Farnborough. The weather was shocking, I was surprised anyone was still up VFR. It cleared as you got further north ahead of the front, just enough time for me to do my IR renewal before it caught up with me!
I heard a girl in a Warrior from somewhere like Redhill caught out as well.

The warrior was a AA5B and the girl was P1 and I was P2. Called Compton and enroute weather all said would be OK but abeam Farnborough it obviously wasn't! The storm caught us overhead Winchester Services (M3), very quick 360 and then North, overhead Popham and then tracked west but the front was just off to our left. Got position from Farnborough to confirm our thoughts overhead Andover. Called up Middle Wallop climb to 2500, found a gap west of Sailsbury and headed to Compton for a safe touchdown. A hairy ten minutes but experience and cool heads meant no big drama. I was worried for the other guy though 'cause he sounded as though he was in the thick it.

Glad you both made it to Compton OK. I listened with interest at the RT and imagined what the cockpit discussions were.
It was not actually a storm, just heavy rain, cloud tops were no more than 3000ft when I climbed on top after passing the LTMA. Looking back was clear on top.
I just maintained a listening watch.

bose-x: 10/10 for technical points and I agree it was rain but when it hit us (or did we hit it ) we lost all visual reference. It was a downpore of tropical proportions with the sparky stuff flashing around. There were a couple of guys on top at 3000 and up until then we were happy at 1500 with good forward viz and light showers so like I said, no big drama at the time. Up North there was more height and climbed to 2500. Always good banter in the cockpit but not much said, just kept cool, looked at the options, checked our position and moved on. De-brief when got back on the ground, lessons learnt and 'I learnt about flying from that...'

It is always useful however to have a passenger who can help out when things start to deteriorate

bose-x: prepared to accept that it could have been either , being my first time in that situation (after many years of uneventful flying) one can imagine or mistake several things.
Just out of interest, what were you flying? I heard a couple of things come out of Farnborough at the time, one of which sounded rotor wing.

PA46. There was an A109 came out of Farnborough about the same time as you.
Please don't take offense at my pedantry, it is just a little gentle humour. You both sounded like you made good calls in poor conditions and they were certainly not completely as forecast.
