The warrior was a AA5B and the girl was P1 and I was P2. Called Compton and enroute weather all said would be OK but abeam Farnborough it obviously wasn't! The storm caught us overhead Winchester Services (M3), very quick 360 and then North, overhead Popham and then tracked west but the front was just off to our left. Got position from Farnborough to confirm our thoughts overhead Andover. Called up Middle Wallop climb to 2500, found a gap west of Sailsbury and headed to Compton for a safe touchdown. A hairy ten minutes but experience and cool heads meant no big drama. I was worried for the other guy though 'cause he sounded as though he was in the thick it.
P2? That was low flying for a 2 crew aircraft......
Glad you both made it to Compton OK. I listened with interest at the RT and imagined what the cockpit discussions were.
It was not actually a storm, just heavy rain, cloud tops were no more than 3000ft when I climbed on top after passing the LTMA. Looking back was clear on top.
I just maintained a listening watch.
