Full Sutton in North Yorkshire is only 15 min taxi from either York or Elvington Air Museum.

Both good days out...

I've always fancied a trip to Duxford for the 'interesting' reason of the Imperial War Museum being there
A group of us are meeting up at Duxford later this month. Why not come along and join us?

Details here .

This assumes that we do not boycot due to recent D-day shananigans

Oxford ... unlike Cambridge, has a proper university.
'Ere, wot are you on? There's nuffink wrong with Cambridge! I did my theology MA there. It's a lot closer to Sahfen' which is a big point in its favour.

Mind you, Oxford is OK too - I studied there when I wuz a yoof, and I still do a few lectures there each year.

William III had the right idea, Keef. He sent troops to Oxford because they were so disputatious (still are). He sent Cambridge some books. He reckoned they could do with some. There's a little rhyme about this, but I have forgotten it.

Tall Guy, it's a matter for you, but it might be interesting for Duxford to receive a letter saying "[X] of us were going to fly in and pay for landings, food, etc, but in view of your stance over the D-Day fracas, we are going to Old Warden [or wherever], instead."

D-Day fracas
Well that's one way past censorship -- spell it completely wrong

Uhmm ? , well there are plenty of interesting places to go but from a just a flying point of view try these.........

Cannes , an interesting trip down the valley from the east under the Nice traffic with the hills above you on both sides.

Ajaccio, Lotts of high ground and a hill between you and the runway going down wind.

Corfu , the same as Ajaccio but with a runway that is about as level as a plowed field !.

This needs dragged a bit further north I think.

Inverness - bus into town if need be
Oban - taxi to town
Glenforsa on Mull - good walk on the beach
Plockton, Skye, etc etc

And the scenery isn't too bad in the area

LBA is only a short taxi ride away from both the cities of Leeds and Bradford, Leeds is renowned for it's great shopping if you wanted to take the wife.

Also nearby is the market town of Otley that has one of the highest concentrations of pubs per sq mile in the country.

Bagby - an interesting departure....

With four up in our 172, I backtracked to the very start of the (downhill) runway. About 1/3 of the way along the (downhill) runway is a tarmac road running right across the runway. As the grass gives way to tarmac there's a drop down, and with the aircraft close to flying speed this threw us momentarily into the air, only to come back to earth heading towards the runway edge as we hadn't reached VR yet.

Thumbs up Interesting Airfields

I agree with AGED

All the Western Scottish airfields are worth the visit. Oban to Inverness through the Great Glen is magic. Watch out for the military though.
Connemara and the Aran Islands are also something else. Stop over in Abbeyshrule for a real night out and see some interesting people and aircraft.
There is also Oxenhope, handy for the Worth Valley Railway and home of the Bronte sisters.
Enjoy the privilege and fly safe.

You should have taken a 172 in there before they got the runway extension - now that was fun

One or two have mentioned Cambridge, which is a lovely city (as long as you don't ever try driving round it... ) and is also my home airfield.

But a word of caution - keep your speed down when taxiing. The airfield speed cops are getting a tad zealous at the moment....

Goodwood: a very pleasant airfield in its own right, amidst attractive secenery, close to Chichester, Bosham, and the Roman Palace at Fishbourne, and ideal for motor or horse racing. OK, so you might meet Evo if you go there, but you can't have everything.

Angel Naked publicity for super wee strips

Well IMHO nothing beats the little clutch of 'aerodromes' about 15-30 miles north of Glasgow .... well worth the effort to splash about with www.caledonianseaplanes.co.uk

......then there is the option of buying two of these (only 20lb weight each) ... www.bike-in-a-bag.com

packing them in the back of a PA28 or C172 and heading out to somewhere luverly like ....

Islay - 7 distilleries to choose from and Morag's bacon rolls in the airport shop
http://www.hial.co.uk/islay-airport.html

Gigha - semi-tropical paradise - 700m grass strip, but be wary if it has been raining, phone the hotel first to find out if grass has been cut and watch out for the soft patch halfway down.
http://www.gigha.org.uk/home/tour/index.php?page=2

Oban -
a destination in its own right, with one of the friendliest welcomes north of Bournemouth. A superb stopping off point for fuel or to wash off the sand if you've just been to the ultimate in freshly washed runways at ...... http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/barra/airport/

or an overnighter on Mull at ....
http://www.glenforsa.co.uk/

and then just to show that I'm not too biased .....
Old Sarum .. super food, super atmosphere
Compton Abbas .. beautiful location, and good food too
Henstridge .. in the middle of no where but a good Sunday lunch!
