Got PPL in 3weeks at Highland Flying School

I'm just after recently getting my PPL and Night Rating at the Highland Flying School based at Inverness Airport, Scotland. The weather was excellent and most of the people were very friendly and welcoming. I met all the gang from the pink headsets thread. They are really as mad as they sound, I met pinkster and she's insane, in a really good way, hehe. It's worth going up there just for the craic!

My flying experience was excellent. The scenery was beautiful and the weather was great (most of the time). The airport isn't very busy which is good but you still have some traffic. I flew about 2-3 hours every day so i had all my training done in 3 weeks.

The people were very friendly and welcoming. They have 3 flying instructors, 2 of whom are part time. I'd recommend Phil and Jim without a doubt. Pete "shakes" Brooks isnt as enthuastic in flying however and isnt very open to questions, but he doesnt fly that much.

If you want more than just flying id defo recommend it as the guys are great craic and i guarantee you there'll be plenty of alcohol! I dont drink so i stuck out like a sore thumb, but i had great fun. Inverness is great craic for going out and the guys go to a pub where all the pilots and ATC crew go so you feel right at home.

I stayed in Ardesire which is about 4 mins from the airport and i always got a lift in in the mornings and back in the evenings from someone at the club. I stayed in a beautiful apartment and it was very reasonable. It sounds really like I'm advertising here but I dont mean to, I just want to say that I had a great time here and if your considering making a career of flying as I am then I'd definately recommend here fopr your PPL and Night Rating. They also show you and teach you several things beyond the course. Its a great school and great fun. You wont be disappointed.

Steve

Takes me back ......

Well, what a joy to find this thread .... takes me back to the heady days of 1999 when I too took 3 weeks off work and ventured north (from Sunny Glasgow) to get my PPL sorted. Who wants to go to the USA on a conveyor belt course when you can do it at Inverness for cheaper ? Well that's wot I reckoned. I wnated to fly in Scotland, so I sure as hell was going to learn in Scotland.

Stunning scenery, and a QXC to Orkney for God's sake

I look back on the three weeks (split by two weeks return to work ) as the ones that opened the door to the rest of my life

To Pete, Dirk, Steve, JP, Yogi, Marilyn, Julie, Jill and all dearly departed ... THANK YOU

Can I drop in for a cuppa .......... ? I'll bring biskits

My god Andrea, i dont know how i didnt mention you. andrea is the nicest receptionist a flying school can have. She was so warm and welcoming to me and even had me over for supper with her husband Billy. Really nice couple and had two lovely kids. I was never bored with Andrea around cos she was a great laugh. So now Andrea did that make up???

Good experience at EGPE

I can only agree with Steve's comments about the Highland Flying School!

I had a great time up there last October when I completed my PPL and returned January this year to do the night qualification.

Hoping to return for the IMC later when I have gained a little more practical experience.

The scenery is awesome! mountains, Firths and Lochs and the airport generally quiet- I only had to orbit once there! Control Tower friendly too

Thumpango- (not so much thump these days!)

Jezzz, i almost forgot to say, and most importantly, the women or "wifeys" as they call them up there aren't at all too bad either, teeheehee. Especially up in the Orkneys, Phil will definately back me up on that one!!

Tail dragger do you have the phone numbers of said girls?
I only meet the single mums and to be honest its no suprise why they are single mums.

I believe the number of free range haggis out number the number of female virgins in Inverness.

And as for paddys dirty wicker hobbit hunting storys, all part of his training to becoming a CPL

And paddy be very careful of orkney women. The northen constab usually put on extra police cover when a report comes in that they are on the way down for a hen night.

I am just going by hearsay, based upon that famous work, I believe of Robbie Burns, "The Ball of Inverness".

My personal knowledge of virgins is alas severely limited.
