The "What's This Badge?" Thread
As requested by Joel @ IB, a new thread for asking what the badges are for.
I seem to have been awarded a "community builder" badge. What's that all about ?

It simply means that you have been active and contributing each day for several weeks (after the badges have launched). And my apologies, I should have answered your question in the other thread before closing.

They are not compulsorily shown. In the user CP, select the last menu point "Badges". This leads to a submenu in which You can see which badges have been bestowed upon You and, more importantly, You can select whether or not to have them displayed.

Yes, thanks for the explanation IBJoel.
I'd wondered if this latest thing might have been based on some measure of merit (as determined by a 'real' person), but as it's very simply algorithmically determined and one could apparently trigger it just by posting complete cr*p over a few days I rather agree with B Fraser's assessment. That is to say it reinforces my previous view about the whole badge regime.
BTW I think most of us here realise it's not your call, and there's little utility in moaning about these things, but sometimes it helps!
FP (who's just checked to ensure there continues to be no display of shiny things on their profile).

The ability to change an earned / paid for personal title would be far more useful. I "won" a title for the funniest post of the year or some such other nonsense and calling for fuel at the airfield pump was all I could think of on the spur of the moment. The ability to change it would be appreciated.

So the 'community builder' badge could be renamed to 'lacks a social life' I guess.....
(I'm probably just as bad... although I do not yet have that extra badge.... must try harder!)

Interesting that the Veteran badges as `us forces specific - apart for a single one for the Canadian armed forces.
I have the community builder - but after 25+ years and 20K posts I’m not sure what checkpoint you have to reach to become a community influencer.

In my view, the less badges the better. They make me think of all those Boy Scout badges - OK for the youngsters but rather sad for us oldies. Oh dear, I really am getting old and crotchety!! Tin hat required?

I agree, however if some proportion of the audience likes them then I am OK with that.
I have blocked their display using my blocker because they are in my opinion very ugly :-) So maybe I am not OK with it?
I don't see an option to turn the display of other peoples badges off. I don't care because I have tools to turn them off here.

New feature which many people don't like and didn't ask for - so no-one is very upset if it doesn't work right.
Give it a few months. Once it's "normal or even "traditional" there'll be a lot of posts and advice
