There be dragons! (old leathery ones with badges that say "Purser")
Been a while since youve been upstairs I take it? No Pursers up there anymore, generally just two junior crew....and I must admit, the service is a lot more consistent and easy going as a result!

Lack of consistency has been my experience of Club World. At its best it's absolutely superb; on other occasions it's been a case of being missed out when drinks are served (the window seat problem), the meal service not being cleared away, or too many PA announcements after departure on "short" Sleeper flights from eastern US and Canadian cities when those of us who have already dined want to sleep.
Having said that, though, seats 62A and 62K are, in my opinion, the best in the sky!

Laarbruch,
A very good source for seat layouts is Airline Seating Charts, Best Airplane Seats - SeatGuru (seatguru.com). It shows arrangements for lots of airlines. One problem is that some airlines have different layouts for the same aircraft type (BA for example have two for the 747-400), but at least you get an idea what they are offering.

Not sure about the new KLM menu though, all very alternative !

Well no, I was talking about what's upstairs on the 747-Combi I was on yesterday. Wish my luggage had been with me, but I am told it made today's flight so should be with me this evening. Do they have manana in Mexico ?

Yep

I only use Virgin Upper now. Not used BA for ages, due to the aforementioned dragons/quality of service.

I get a chance to travel Club World once a year with BA, and I always choose upstairs on the B744 (four of us travel together and we always specify upstairs at the time of booking to avoid disappointment).

Frankly, even though someone else is paying the bill, I'm not all that bothered about First Class - with Club you get excellent service from top-class staff, and a lie-flat bed that even my 6'2" frame can get reasonably comfortable with. I've been bumped up to First with American Airlines in the past and it was nice, but not all that much nicer than the AA Business Class I usually used.

I'd quite like to try Virgin Upper Class sometime; looks pretty cool, but I've only ever managed Premium Economy.

I once got on at Sydney and discovered my seat wouldn't stay completely upright. The QF flight was full of course so when I got back on after the stop at Singapore I got put up in the top for the trip to Heathrow. Very nice. You sleep so when you arrive your body clock is still out of sync but you aren't tired. Unfortunately it made all subsequent economy long hauls a little more tiresome.

The only way to travel is First, or Club Class as a minimum. I don't do peasant class!
BA First class is the only place I know of where a gentleman can have a pee while watching the world pass by 35,000 ft below.

Before any adverse comments appear , BA loos have a little outside window in at least one of the loos.

The upper deck of the 744s then (95-96) had a swimming pool,
I assume that this is a joke....

Angel

Not at all R04stb33f. The feature that I liked was that, when the a/c banked and the pool overflowed, that it went down the special chute that curled around the spiral staircase. It made the most beautiful waterfall. The water then flowed into a small special locker, where it was pumped back upstairs.

Swimming pools upstairs?? Of course it's a joke!

Everyone knows that all there is upstairs in a 747 is the loft with the Christmas decorations and the pilot's collection of Airfix kits.

Unhappy

is the loft with the Christmas decorations and the pilot's collection of Airfix kits.
But, but [sniff] you mean that [gulp] the water down the stairs was only the overflow from the cold water storage tank???

Through a romantic relationship at the time I was "invited" by the CSD to move from WTP to First on a 744, a totally overrated service but it was worth it to see the looks on the other passengers face when I sat down in First!

Silverelise - you did the right thing switching to VS, as I have whenever I can.

Upper deck on BA still rocks when compared to the rather cramped downstairs cabins but no point in venturing anywhere these days to 'raid the larder' as there is usually precious little to raid, especially on return sectors.

As for today's 'washbags' well, in that respect it really doesn't matter where you sit whether you are on VS or BA, because they are equally poor. At least VS still have the sleeper suits though

62K - spot on, with all that you say. If ever 62A/K are not available though, 64A ain't that bad. What's your pref on a 777 though - 15?
