Angel Thomson Fly - Not Bad At All!!!

Hi All, Just returned from a jaunty week in hot Lanzarote (don't bother!) but apart from that, flights out on 5th October and returning today on Thomson Boeing 767-300 were really not bad at all!! Didn't know what to expect because a few colleagues had said that they weren't really up to scratch but I have to say, pleasant cabin crew going out, planes obviously old (could see GARUDA INDONESIA painted underneath all that naff blue colour) and then after that there were stickers in the loos with BRITANNIA on so must have been part of them in the not too distant past, but the plane journey outbound was really smooth; thanks Hampshire Hog! I really did not panic at all this time, thanks to your really helpful threads! Excellent landings as well both outbound and the journey back to MAN. I was really impressed. Planes were absolutley huge!! Extra legroom seats had us in 2A and 2B so right at the front near the first exit and toilet; decent meals as well on both flights. Really service could not be faulted, part from the fact that the hosties looked really tired as we came into land at MAN tonight at about 8.35pm, but then we all were!! Get my vote and would fly with them again. Don't know if this will make sense, but after that bumpy A320 journey in June with GB, I felt safer in the 767, probably because it was bigger, I don't know, but good flights anyhow.

Britannia were re-branded thomsonfly about two years ago. Its the same company basically.

With reference to garuda indonesia, thomson lease 5 767-300's to them during the winter for the hajj flights.
Thomson flight crew and engineers but garuda cabin crew.

I flew with Thomson earlier in the year over to Cyprus. Did panic a bit before hand when a few web forums said they were awful (leg room complaints, cabin crew etc). A couple of issues though - having to pay extra to sit next to family and paying extra for in flight meal.......bit of a joke really but apart from that OK.

Yeah, they were ok, apart from the fact they stranded 150 passengers in Faro airport overnight with no hotels to go to, all because their old plane had broken...

You have to take these "Passenger opinion" sites with a pinch of salt, in the same way one passenger will get off and say "Bloody awful" to my surprise, with the lady two rows behind telling me as she disembarks that it was "The best flight she'd ever been on". Just like some like the Maldives, and some couldn't think of anywhere worse to be for 2 weeks, we all look at things differently. To be fair these days all charter short haul is pretty much standard in terms of seat pitch, food, prices for drinks etc...

The standard short haul (including the canaries) legroom on Thomsonfly (28-29") is abysmal. The poster experienced extra legroom (or premium which are also wider) seats, hence it was good.

This was not the standard short haul service.

The negative reports usually relate to the standard seats.

You feel safer in a 767 rather than an A320, because you had a 'bumpy journey' with the latter. For reference, 'bumpy journeys' ,are usually caused by the weather and turbulence, and I'd venture to suggest that whether it is an A320 or 767 is irrelevant.

Hardly a good reason for not flying with GB airways.

Thumbs down Thompson Fly are Crooks

Worst customer service in the world.
I booked online for a certain date and was presented with 3 prices. I assumed these were different classes.
I booked the cheapest, not knowing that they were in fact on different dates.

I immediately called to change or cancel and was on hold for 45 minutes each of the 3 times I called. I sent 3 emails over the next week, starting within 10 minutes of booking.

Finally 4 weeks later (after the flight) I got an email stating their policy is that flights are strictly non refundable.

These people are crooks! I was charged $220 for flights I could never use and gave me no way to change it.
I would never even consider using them again, under any circumstances.

I think you'll find that the dates ARE on the page with the prices! Think you'll also find that you should have read the screen more carefully. Is is staggering the amount of people who book their OWN flights on line, but still blame the airline for getting their booking wrong!! U punched in the details, You made the mistake = YOU ARE TO BLAME.

ThomsonFly

I have never booked with ThomsonFly before but, I just had a look through the website and entered some dates and a destination.

I was given a choice of prices with the first price being the date that I chose with cheaper options on other dates displayed after.

So, I can't see how you can blame them for that, all they are doing is giving you a cheaper option with the dates clearly displayed.

Also their T&C's quite clearly state that refunds are not given once a booking is made.

Infact if you book a cheap fare with BA for example it's non-refundable so it's not specific to ThomsonFly.

Thomsonfly

I have flown with this airline several times recently. I have found that they are usually on time but the aircraft are quite dated. It may be that the flights I have been using are for the lower end of the market MME to ALC. One thing which does mark them out from the rest is the meals which are really quite palatable. Not worth the price obviously but there again much better than normal.
On the whole much better than the average charter or cheapo carrier.

First Choice raised the bar with their longhaul economy cabins last year - 34in pitch, seatback screens, leather seats etc etc. Better than many schedule carriers.

The other charters, incl Thompson et al, are having to catch up.

Good news for us all. Those few inches make a lot of difference.

Skintman,

I agree with your sentiments on legroom with first choice. Unfortunately it only applies to longhaul. So on flights of even five hours (which they regard as shorthaul), you still get the same old crap seat pitch of 29 inches - which is pretty much the same as the budget carriers and other charters.
