Security alert at East Midlands

Apparently a Thomsonfly Airbus was evacuated this morning after a passenger made 'remarks' to a cabin crew member about a device on board. Anybody know anything else??

Local TV news concurs.

Sound like some mindless p**t making inappropriate comments.

Airport operating normally as at 1230Z

Perhaps they should insist that the idiot behind the comment goes and helps the emergency services in London recover the unidentified bodies from the tunnel.

Might make them engage the brain before operating the mouth next time!

Was not a pax,it was a young cleaner who made comments to the number1 on two occasions.Led away by police very upset.seven hour delay whilst a/c towed to remote stand and searched by police.Stupidity often encountered from pax but for an asian staff member to make threats when we are at CRITICAL threat level is really dumb.Don't know whether to feel sorry for him or have him hung.Could be looking at three years according to NEMA security staff.

When did Thomsonfly get A320's? Regardless, it was a really stupid thing to say and do.

I wasn't Thomsonfly, it was a Thomas Cook A320. On stand ooh about 4.

NEMA rumour mill is in agreement with everything else above. A very very stupid joke that, at the least will have cost him his job, and in the present climate could easily end up in a criminal conviction. D'OH!

Silly silly boy

The BBC claim the man wasn't particularly young... making comments/jokes about security are stupid at the best of times but with the dust from last Thursday yet to settle it's just downright insensitive also...

BBC NEWS REPORT FROM BBC ONLINE:

A 25-year-old man has been arrested over a security alert at an airport as passengers waited to board a flight.
Crews had to off-load luggage from the aircraft at Nottingham East Midlands Airport after a comment was allegedly about a security risk.

It affected a Thomas Cook Airbus-A320 bound for Palma from the Leicestershire airport at 0700 BST on Tuesday.

Passengers had not boarded the plane and were not at risk, an airport spokesman said.

He said in a statement: "Nottingham East Midlands Airport can confirm that investigations are currently under way into a security incident that occurred at around 7am involving a Thomas Cook Aircraft to Palma.

Aircraft examination

"The airport remains fully operational. Passengers are advised to check-in as normal. The safety and security of our passengers and staff remain our highest priorities at all times."

Leicestershire Police said an examination of the aircraft had taken place and a 25-year-old man had been arrested in connection with making a false statement.

A spokeswoman for the force added: "It is stressed, however, that the arrest has not been made under terrorism legislation."

The plane has since taken off.

Security alerts

Good morning all,
Security scares aren't just related to the airlines.
Here in East Anglia we had two (known) alerts in local shopping malls caused by some moron (bored teenager looking for thrills perhaps). These caused massive disruptions to hundreds of people, and for no good reason.

I've no problem with people making genuine mistakes in the current climate (safe than sure etc) but to make a knowing hoax call, or 'joke' as alluded to here, just beggars belief. Maybe we need to copy what the US did last year, when they baged up a tourist for telling a security man they had a bomb in their bag??

I'll get off my sopa box now. Clear skies and happy landings all!

Unfortunately there is no point in getting on any soap box today.

The result of the incidents in London last week will have the security services on tender hooks for a short period of time and to this avail will give rise to hoax callers who gain satisfaction from disrupting services.
