Dunno about that Gripen one being "fun". Did the driver get out alive?

PyroTek 18th May 2008 15:34

looks like he mighta ejected on the 2nd roll, i saw something fly out of there. looked kinda like a seat.
It was in the air, then changed vectors and shot off sideways, hopefully was the pilot

ules 18th May 2008 16:31

i dont understand how anyone can land a plane like that so bad. the pilot must of been drunk or having heart problems or something...
(1st vid)

2nd vid could that be from wake turb?
:suspect:

zkdli 18th May 2008 16:51

From what I remember the Gripen was a test flight and the computer fly by wire program got a glitch....

slimynyk 18th May 2008 17:04

Hmmmmm, are you a student Pilot by any chance?

Ask your instructor to tell you about our little friend "Pilot Induced Oscillation", especially before you fly any Cessna.

Land just a little fast, in terms of absolute velocity over ground, in some aircraft and you will bounce, exactly as the Piper did. Then try and ease the control column forward during the bounce - you will be half a second behind the aircraft. Then realise that you are going to hit hard - so pull back on the column just before you hit - again half a second behind the aircraft and you will bounce again. Keep repeating this until the firewall or the nosewheel gives up.

The alternative is to either go around or maintain the aircraft in it's flared attitude during the bounce, perhaps adding a little power if required to cushion the next descent.

It cost me $1500 to learn this, and I am giving it to you for free.:}

one light plane land on another one.
You know how hard they can be to control during mating season.

one light plane land on another one... Only in the US of A
What a stupid remark, I thought probationary ppruners were subject to vetting by the moderators.

Speaking of moderators, first person to post a link to that stupid Heineken Beer commercial gets suggested to the moderators for a lifetime ban.

Only in America?

Sunfish 18th May 2008 23:08

Slimy, references to an aircraft landing on another are in bad taste on an Australian thread because a young pilot was killed that way not that long ago.

Capt Wally 18th May 2008 23:27

if the pilot was drunk in that first vid then their guuna nget caught if here in the land of the free..OZ:bored:
I think the main prob in that first vid was that the PIC was a 747 skipper getting back into flying for fun so he not want to the speedo less than say around 130 kts:E

hey 'Rob D' not seen that vid b4, where did ya find that rare footage from?:E

CW:)

BrazDriver 19th May 2008 00:43

I think this one takes the cake for the whole "only in America" phrase.

Quite possibly the most bizarre aviation accident / landing you will ever see

Make sure you watch it all the way till the end

Maybe the Piper pilot was having a checkride to be an IL76 test pilot...
