Gayndah in sunny Queensland has 4 cameras up as of today, 11 December, 2018. The quality is good, updated every 15 minutes and a fine effort(although not perfect) from a regional council who typically knows very little about aviation. Photos are here: https://www.northburnett.qld.gov.au/aerodromes/ .

They are a bit clunky as each photo needs to be selected from the thumbnail individually. The cameras were installed at least 6 months ago and it has taken a lot of pestering to finally have these photos online.

This means someone can fly in a more or less straight line to Gayndah from the Archerfield(YBAF) cameras via the Watts Bridge(YWSG) cameras, the Murgon(YMRG) cameras to the Gayndah(YGAY) cameras.

The URL’s for those cameras are able to be used in OZRunways and Avplan as-is. Do you have a contact there that we could speak to about using them in the EFB’s for the sake of all aviators ?

You’d never find them otherwise.

Contact details have been sent by pm.

Thanks to Possum1 and the lead provided, Gayndah should be appearing in your EFB fairly soon. I've spoken with the council whom weren't aware of OZRunways and Avplan so were delighted to have them appear in the apps in the interests of letting all pilots have access to them.

:D

I have also been in discussions around knowledge sharing to get an addition 4 or more units set up at other airfields within the councils boundaries. Stay tuned on those, however they will be a little while off whilst a technical solution is sorted.

Happy to assist. More cameras at the council's other airfields would be welcome too. Biggenden, for example, is an interesting little town with at least one decent coffee shop and is only an 800m walk to the "CBD."

YCAB - Caboolture in sunny Queensland is now up and running with compliments of Candoit Pty Ltd, the resident Dynon agent and professional aircraft wiring service providers.

Katoomba NSW

Very important weather cameras now up and running at Katoomba Airfield.

This is is a strategic location and right next to a “critical locality” Mount Victoria.

There are 2 cameras and a high quality weather station. Weather data printed on images with additional weather data image also available on Ozrunways (and soon Avplan)

This was a complicated install with cameras on a pole and no power and fixed line internet.

Thanks to a big investment from the aerodrome operator and additionally a generous generous donation.

Suggestion... The weather details are pretty hard to read especially on the camera looking North-West because the text blends into the background topography.

You could try moving the text closer to the Winsock or alternatively put a darker layout beneath the text to make it stand out more, something similar to a text box with a black background at 50% or something like that would make it a lot better. Not complaining just giving you a suggestion.

I would really like to get weather at our home airfield so it can be displayed on our images just like you have done on your images.

Would you mind letting people know what program you have used etc.

Anyway, congratulations good job !

mcoates......

Scroll down, it's all there and more

Too bad the aerodrome is closed to fixed wing until further notice...

mcoates 18th Jan 2019 22:08

Hello chief galah, what I was asking is what whether software are they using so I can be put onto the WebCam image. At our airfield we just have the image but we don't have a weather station and don't know how to incorporate that into the weather image. That is what I was asking

I have a private client with a crop dusting business that’s running a Davis Pro Vantage 2 weather station with Meteobridge, uploading to WeatherCloud, with 4 cameras on 4G, all running on a solar panel with battery. Works a treat :-) Has a lot of information available re weather, perfect for the needs of crop dusting. Weather info can be injected over the image, however in this case there is literally too much information to display so we keep it separate, but of course you can pick and choose what is displayed. Eventually they will use 4 complete units across dozens of itinerant strips.

If this system sounds of interest to anyone, drop me a PM and I can help out.

Would it be possible to buffer the last 10-15 images of each location/webcam and play them back on demand?

My website already does that for my private clients, eg farms, troughs, boats and other cameras but I didn’t put it on the aviation section as Ozrunways and Avplan offer a timelapse, however I certainly can add that as I’m updating the page at the moment. Others have also asked for this feature.

Hi mcoates,

Thanks for your feedback. I use php scripts that I have written to perform the tasks. I wrote them to suit my own website and they have been updated many times along the way. They reside on the server and they are activated automatically when images or weather data get uploaded from the various aerodrome cameras and weather stations.

Thank you for your suggestions about placement of text. I have tried many configurations along the way and am open to changes. As the website is a joint effort, every host has an input into what they want on their images and how it looks. This is why on my site you will see some different arrangements between them.

Importantly the cameras only upload an image. They do not put text on them. This all happens on the server enabling me to be able to make updates without accessing the cameras themselves.

Cheers

Squawk7700 19th Jan 2019 20:01

You can make the text easier to read by inserting a black jpg before the met text and adjust the dimensions to suit. The first set of numbers is X and Y, the other is the size of the jpg (which is simply just some black pixels) and the last number (80) is the transparency.

$black = imagecreatefromjpeg('black.jpg');
imagecopymerge($image, $black, 270, 678, 0, 0, 765, 30, 80);

Squawk7700 20th Jan 2019 07:12

Deniliquin is now up and running with 4 cameras, but without direction stamps as the cameras will be raised soon and orientations may change, after which it will be in your favourite EFB.
