The Glenburn gap and Yan Yean cameras have just been added to Ozrunways so many thanks to the owner of those.

Again, because of this thread, we now have two more cameras coming online in a bit over a month at Lakes Entrance which will be great as that's a bit of a black hole down there at the moment.

Squawk7700 12th May 2018 23:56

Two new cameras have come online yesterday at Lethbridge which will be a welcome addition (pending addition to Ozrunways shortly).

Also on Friday we had two new cameras at a property with private strip at Scaddan in Western Australia.

The website is starting to become very useful to track the weather across Victoria as it comes in from the west. With Warrnambool fully up early this week and Colac coming very soon there will pretty much be a full line of cameras available from Warrnambool to Lakes Entrance.

We're also heading north with more near Wallan and are working on many more north of there.

We added a new domain name that's easier to remember.

We've recently added these weather cameras to AvPlan EFB as well. Nice work Squark7700!

Bevan
On Avplan, camera’s, some are black, some are red, some are green icons.
What is the meaning of these colours?

If there is a METAR reporting station then we colour code the icons to match. Green == VFR, Blue == VFR but cloud less than 2500' and/or vis less than 10km. Yellow cloud less than 1000' or vis less than 5km. Red, cloud less than 500'.

Basically the same as we colour code the METARs

Lead Balloon 15th May 2018 04:27

Rj: The colour denotes the implications of the corresponding METAR.

Hi Bevan: Any chance of getting SDIElectrical’s cameras on AvPlan as well?

Squawk7700 15th May 2018 06:02

Check your PM's Bevan.

Yup, they are all there too, and the BoM ones plus a few more

Lead Balloon 15th May 2018 21:06

With time lapse to boot!

Bloody marvellous. Thanks Bevan.

Bevan
There seem to be a lot more cameras shown in Ozrunways, than are available through AVPLAN at the moment.

Bevan666 19th May 2018 13:44

Weve got a few more to add, but only adding ones which are currently online.

I truly appreciate the webcams via ozrunways. Thanks everyone.

4 new cameras have hit the site today at http://Auswebcams.com and will find their way into your EFB provider in the near future.

They are at Horsham and are hosted by Horsham Aviation Services, with many thanks to Tony there for the go-ahead and Wendy for her in-depth IT knowledge to get them up and running so smoothly!

It was suggested by a keen reader of this thread today that I add an overlay of a clear day picture.
The FAA has something similar on theirs, however it's not visible through an EFB, but rather only through their website.

Does anyone have any more suggestions better than this or in addition?

Good idea squawk

maybe we we could ask the EFB providers to add a clear day images as part of their loop. That way the viewer gets a look before it scrolls through the images of actual conditions.

rjtjrt 24th May 2018 00:38

One of my concerns is seeing out of date weather cam image and not realising it is not the current situation.
Even though it may be hard to do, even the smallest chance that someone will see a clear day image and not realise it is not in any way the current situation should be guarded against.

Edit: I don’t really see the need for a clear day option.
Keep it simple and clear, is the way to go. I reminded of the engineering maxim “better is the enemy of good enough”.

Squawk7700 24th May 2018 01:13

The Alaskan cameras page is really good as it displays the "clear day" shot next to the current image and details the high points and distance from the airport however this is through a browser so easier to muck around with. The issue for the EFB's is they generally only display a picture and you'd need a stack of mods to be able to do what the browser can do.

Lets see what the future holds. This feature is moreso for visitors rather than the locals and if you're worried about that level of detail, you're probably pushing your limits.

An update for this week.

Bridport (next to Barnbougle) at the top end of Tasmania has just come on-line and will be appearing on your chosen EFB very soon. Thanks to Flinders Island Aviation for hosting it.

Lots more are still to come !

Weather Cameras

We have also added the "clear view" picture for Lady Barron as a trial and will add it to other sites with terrain.

Well done Squawk.
That clear view at Lady Barron is ok. No chance (however remote) of confusing it with current situation.

More webcam’s just added to AVPLAN.
On first glance, looks like same now as shown in Ozrunways.
Hope they keep up in a timely way with new ones in future as they become available.
