An Aero 45, Czech 1950's aeroplane powered by Walter Mikrons, looks as though the props have been changed from the originals though, PH (I used to work for the Omnipol importers back in the 60's).

The Aero Ae-45 resp. Ae-145 is a twin-engined four-seat light touring and corporate travel aircraft with retractable landing gear produced by the Czechoslovak manufacturer AERO Vodochody a.s.. That means only 3 'mountains' to avoid. Handy range. 1600km. Throttle back to fuel saving 200km/h, that's 8 hours endurance. Hope there a 'water closet' on board. At least a bucket. Or a bottle... |
(What manner of beast is this?)
Lte-Aero-AE145 Super Aero 145 |
service ceiling of 4400 ft?
|
TTY is correct - it's a Super Aero 145.
Maybe the 4400 ft quoted earlier is the single engined ceiling? The owner states that it will, if cleaned up, climb away on one. Now we're talking of 3500 lbs being dragged along by 140 hp, so this is quite a claim. Certainly a neat aeroplane, and a beautiful restoration. |
Felt sorry for those on the road that didn't have an aircraft to get to their Easter destination...

What is the process to upload photos to this thread ?
Probably been asked before - sorry |

The above thread gives you chapter and verse, however the short version is that you need to host your photos elsewhere and insert the link in your post here. I use a free photobucket account, the trick is to copy the "Direct" link, ie not the IMG etc links, this then gets pasted in the address bar when you click on the little yellow "postcard" insert image icon on the toolbar above. 4th from right on my version. Simple when you know how, but I'll admit to a feww curses until I worked it out. |
That Aero 145 has supercharged engines and the service ceiling is more about 19,000 ft. It is also aerobatic and there are stories of it being demonstrated in the UK in the 1950s' by a Czech demo pilot doing climbing rolls with one engine feathered. An interesting feature is that the props are variable rather than constant speed and are controlled electrically.

Zura
That will be Janusz Zurakowski then (although Polish) his famous "rotating leaf" in the Gloster Meteor was the highlight of the Farnborough airshows back late 50's early 60's, am fortunate to have seen him perform, does come up on Ytube with aerobatic performances, PH.

An Aero 145 is demonstrated nicely here - with a few minutes of single engine operation as well. Nice - I'd like one ....

Didn't Douglas Bader fly one for Shell after the war?
|
I think Bader flew a Miles Gemini which was a competitor to the Aero. He eventually wound up flying a Beech Travel Air.

Another seaplane moment..
Here is an old snap for Pianoman, hope your still enjoying your floats mate and thanks for all the wonderful shots in the Whitsundays. I've got great memories of that region too! :ok:
