I take it back. A little Googleing has taught me that there was an 'Extended Wing' version of the F-86 where the ailerons don't extend all the way to the wingtip.
Couldn't tell you where that one is though. |

A nice little strip, close to town in Gippsland. A little surprised it's still there with people often complaining about strips near their properties. They must have an aviation friendly council.

I'm not sure how its possible to hold a position that councils don't require consent for airstrips on rural zoned land.
All councils operate under local environment plans which is written into the law of NSW. To my knowledge only two LGA's in NSW dont require consent for airstrips. Other states may be different. Here's Albury council's requirements for example: Zone RU1 Primary Production 1 Objectives of zone• To encourage sustainable primary industry production by maintaining and enhancing the natural resource base. • To encourage diversity in primary industry enterprises and systems appropriate for the area. • To minimise the fragmentation and alienation of resource lands. • To minimise conflict between land uses within this zone and land uses within adjoining zones. A better example would have been any of those LEP's which require consent for airstrips, but you can see, its written into legislation. If there is a way to eliminate council's authority in this area I'd be very interested to hear of it. |
In Victoria, and I think the rest of Australia, council permission is not required for the land owner to operate his own private fixed wing aircraft ( I've heard that helicopters are different) from his own private land. The constitution and Harley Davidsons have been mentioned in this regard.
In my experience, it is hard to get this ruling from the council, perhaps because they lack experience in this area, but when tested, the outcome has been proven to be as above. I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has tried this and been stopped. There is no doubt that permission is required to start up any sort of aerodrome which might be open to the public or involve many different aircraft. This has been discussed before google legal question flying from private property. |
