Airship
I did not take the pics. Its got American rego and advertises Holden. It lights up at night and has a moving sign on it. I've "run into it" when flying both in day time and once at night.
Interesting to watch it "land". It comes in at about 1000 ft (circuit height) turns its nose into the wind then nose dives at about 45 degrees to the waiting ground crew. They've got a pole for it between the grass runways at Camden NSW. There is a video at this link where you can see it being assembled. http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/...rshipframe.jsp |
I used to watch the one based at Essendon do bumps and circuits, the bumps really were bumps.

Great idea for a thread, this one should be made a 'sticky'
I don't have many aerial aviation photographs, so I hope I am not bending any rules by posting my enthusiast planespotting photos. As you are only allowed a maximum of 15 images per post here, I have posted some links to other sites where I have uploaded them. Enjoy: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...planespot1.jpg Latest and Greatest Planespotting Photos (14 pictures) http://flyawaysimulation.com/postt17163.html http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...nymorning2.jpg Even more Plane Spotting Photos (13 pictures) http://flyawaysimulation.com/postt16504.html http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...lanespots2.jpg My Best Planespotting Photos By Far (15 pictures) http://flyawaysimulation.com/postt16252.html http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...planepsot9.jpg Easter Plane-Spotting Photos from Auckland (11 pictures) http://flyawaysimulation.com/postt14027.html http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1..._pslatest4.jpg Some New Planespotting Photos (6 pictures) http://flyawaysimulation.com/postt15701.html http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ppllanesp6.jpg 3rd Installment: plane-spotting Photos from Auckland NZ (10 pictures) http://flyawaysimulation.com/postt12504.html http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...rpacific14.jpg NEW! There are many NZ and Oz scenery included in the linked images on that page, you might be surprised to see how realistic it is! Another page of photos I would like to link are a series of shots Geoff Cooper (aka Spinco) took for me while piloting the ANZ B777. You can find them here: http://z11.invisionfree.com/nzff/ind...?showtopic=345 By the way, I love those tropical costal shots 'Chimbu chuckles', that would be my idea of a dream job, flying cargo/pax in small prop's around the islands... |
Ummm...that's Moreton Island off Brissy...and me fooling around in my Bonanza. More fun than the work Boeing but:ok:

Some of us (three lapuns from PNG and three younger generation) were havin REAL fun last week flyin' this old girl from Sydney to her new base in Perth.

For those of you who flew the "Three" and the ones who wish they could...
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g3...Bubbleback.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g3...bblewindow.jpg The "bubble window" (something none of us ever saw) is magic for looking out forward through the engine and airframe or back to where you've come from as well as straight down. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g3...c/boarding.jpg Country people flocked for a joyflight. Here people of Deniliquin board for a sunset flight. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g3...doanything.jpg Believe it or not THIS is the aircraft owner and managing director of the company... Most of us might dream of taking on such a project but wouldn't go through with the dream... HE did. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g3...c/Backfire.jpg Clicked just as she backfired A young bloke came and looked her over. He said ,"He wouldn't want to fly such an old hunk of junk... He was getting checked out on a Bandit or something similar soon. Passed through my mind to answer... "And how many hours do you have now?" ..... Then point out, "Son when ya've got double digits in your thousands of hours you'll sit up one day and wonder what all the scrambling up the heap was about. You've never really FLOWN an aeroplane, because in modern hi performance aircraft you don't fly 'em, you OPERATE them and the time in lighties you were taught to pretend they were high performance. The Auto pilot flys them, all pilots do is program them and monitor the systems. One day you'll remember us and realize, we've had what you dreamed of before you embarked on your career. We started out "flying", did our years "operating" and finished up in the classic old Gooney which doesn't even have an auto pilot... and you know, after poling the old girls around the sky for hours, you are more relaxed when you step down than you are on shorter flights in jets. For those who don't believe me check out how many ex airline blokes own real aeroplanes! A couple of weeks ago I was at a get together of those blokes and there were a couple of RAA aircraft, 3 Chipmunk, Tiger Moth, Auster, Cherokee, Bonanza, Cessna 180, Cessna 310, Beech 18, Shrike Commander and Mustang owners and they were flying their aircraft for the pleasure of themselves and us on the ground. |
