Towering Q

Yes at first but I dismissed ESP as it looks nothing like it and was trying to think of something further west towards Frankland River or west of Albany towards Augusta. One way or another I was fixated on the south coast because of the GAS connection.:rolleyes:

Stallie mate what do you use for glideslope guidance as the perspectives would be all shot to hell and I imagine the arrival of the ground? could be quite surprising sometimes as it is black hole arrivals.?

Do you say fly a std circuit on reported QFE and/or is there sufficient contrast to eyeball it.???

Led Zep 24th Sep 2006 17:06

I too was thinking southern coast. The whole "GAS over water" tripped me out. :\
"There is no water around Kalgoorlie!!" :}

Just a whole lot of nuffink.

It's about now something goes, "booooooooom!" Don't know if she went supersonic but je-sus she was moving and my head felt like exploding when she flew past. Noice! :ok:

Stallie, how was the glare? :uhoh: And judging the flare? :}

compressor stall 24th Sep 2006 23:54

Glare is fine, just wear sunnies. The flare is no problem in clear skies - and don't trust the RADALT.
Gaunty - Generally a regular circuit is flown, although sometimes at 500' with a closer then usual downwind to inspect the tracks if doing multiple drags before committing to landing. As for glideslope guidance: time the circuit in the same way as one would at say Eucla at 0330 local.... :)
A landing area like this is great. Great definition for landing and orientation. Without the mountains and with BKN Cirrus or worse, there are similarities with the black hole approach except that you can't rely on a visual in the last 100 feet in your landing lights... For that reason, it's usually best avoided. :8
When I did some skiflying in an Auster in overcast skies, you just set it up for touchdown with a nice slow rate of descent and wait for the bump. In deep snow it's like landing on a doona!

Nope.

777WakeTurbz 29th Sep 2006 05:24

I love those scenic strips! :D

This is a great thread, ive been meaning to get a decent digi camera for ages because there isnt a time i go up that i dont see something i want to take a snap of, part of the reason i love to fly!

So this thread has been inspiring me to pull my finger out and FINALLY get one...

Any recommendations on a good digi with high resolution pics and handy enough to keep in a flight bag with your charts?
Probably best to pm me rather than take up thread space.

Turbz:ok:
