"Yeah but who runs em at 25 or 2700 rpm?" - every pilot when one is in a RACE.

Also I would love to own both a V35 and an XK140 Jag - both white with red leather seats. Matching pair.

:ok:

The Jag may look nice, but like all Pommie machinery, would be a chronic oil leaker.

There is only one way to stop these oil leaks, and that is to plug them with $100 notes.

Bob Murphie 2nd Jul 2009 04:27

V35TC shows 75% power at 2500 RPM at 24,000ft. Thats a cruise speed. The book shows that as full throttle. 214 HP, 15.5 US gal per hour, (58.74 LPH).

The normally aspirated V35 is 2 Kts off the mark, so if you fly light I don't see any reason why a competent pilot can't make it achieve 180 Kts.

PS: The FTDK is in the shop as we speak, being tuned and rigged to perfection in preparation for the inevitable showdown with the Retard Vehicle! http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...ilies/evil.gif
This is a "Photos" thread - so here is a pic I took this morning of the FTDK in the workshop being prepared for the duel with the RV10 (Retard Vehicle Mk10)!

http://www.fototime.com/52AC6505F6E1404/standard.jpg

Its actually an interesting comparison. The RV10 is very close in pax/load carrying and performance to the BE33/35 (if a tad slower!). That is to be expected because the 10 has a few less ponies and it leaves its dangly bits on display the whole time :E. The empty weight of the FTDK is about 250 kg more than the RV10, cause the Beech is built like a brick ****house and the RV is built outta alfoil!

If you want an aeroplane with that sort of capability, a new RV10 or a low time, well equipped BE33/35 will cost you about the same $$.

Out of curiosity what do you plan on in the FTDK?
For the record, I generally fly for a good compromise of speed/range/fuel burn. At 10,000 ft, 2300 rpm/21" (about 65% power) the FTDK will TAS 162 kts and burn 50 L/hr.

I dont understand your obssession with the Bonanza, they are old, and hideously ugly and dangerous!
Obsession? Nah, after 600+ hrs in the FTDK, I just like them and Mrs Dr doesn't like to fly in anything else! I have time in most of the common singles, so I have some base for comparison. For work I probably should have a C206, but had my numbers come up on Tuesday night I would have been on the first flight to Wichita to order a G36!

Old? The FTDK is a 77 model with 3300 hrs on the clock. A nice example of the breed. The Bonanza line has been in continuous production for 60+ years so they must be doing something right!

Ugly? Fortunately for you, Wannabe, beauty is in the eye of the beholder - else you might never get laid!

Dangerous! Probably the most flexible, easy to handle, vice-less aeroplane in its class that I have flown. Its neutral stability in the rolling plane, however, makes it quite unforgiving of poor basic flying technique or lazy instrument scan!

Old, ugly and dangerous! Yep, that would be me!

Yeah but who runs em at 25 or 2700 rpm?
Where does this rubbish come from?

2500 rpm? Yep, me if I have a particular need (eg to fly in the Flight Levels), or if I am in a hurry - as does probably every other Bonanza pilot around.

2700 rpm? Not, not generally - but there is no real reason not to do so. The IO520BA in the FTDK is certified for 2700 rpm continuous. I run it at 2700 for every take-off - that would be real scarey if it was a bit fragile!

If the engine is operated within the manufacturer's limits with respect to rpm, a far more important consideration is CHT and to a lesser extent EGT!

One thing is for certain, some time in the next couple of weeks a video will be posted in this thread. It will show one of three things:

1) The FTDK cruising past the RV10 (most likely senario!)
2) The RV10 creeping past the FTDK (least likely senario!). In which case I will have to change my ID in here!
3) The FTDK and the RV10 side-by-side, locked in a stalemate until someone cracks!

Anyone want to run a book? :E

WannabeQF. You better be joking mate, cos if that actually is you and you have a go at the FTDK on the same page, you quite simply lose all credibility

Mr Milk 2nd Jul 2009 12:23

Yeah Pprune- where the cream of the aviation industry compare their battle yarns.....

I wonder how many on here actually have anything to do with the industry and are not just geeks at home playing computer games.

The thrust/drag ratio of the trolley with the jet on top wouldn't be too bad I imagine. Always wanted a go-kart like that ! :)
Nice hangar pics!

slackie 2nd Jul 2009 20:09

Yeh...I think Ultralights won that p!ssing competition!!:ok::} Particularly if he owns the hardware in the photos!!!! Well done! And count me in for one of those go-karts too!

When you guys get this sad little spat out of the way, there's a nice little Mooney here ready to take on the winner...;)

Chimbu chuckles 3rd Jul 2009 02:47

Now that is funny. Some time ago I did some formation flying in the FTDKer, with FTDKer's brother in his (lovely) Mooney.

Which, of the RV or FTDKer, is fastest remains a disputed, only by Jaba:E, point for now but nothing is more certain in life than the Mooney coming a distant 3rd.:ok:

Chimbu chuckles 3rd Jul 2009 03:46

those things cruise at 220
BWAHAHAHAHAHA:rolleyes:

I think you will find there is ONE (Turbo'd) model of Mooney that MIGHT hit 220 KTAS at FL250 if everything is working perfectly.

Your average Mooney is good for 155-160KTAS.

Ultralights 3rd Jul 2009 04:20

Dont forget Chimbu, thats a Flight Sim Mooney!

j3pipercub 3rd Jul 2009 04:39

yeah, c'mon Wannabe, show him another vid of you doin 220 in the mooney...

ForkTailedDrKiller 3rd Jul 2009 06:03

sorry, i only fly the heavy metal.
As in heavy metal aeroplane paperweight?

I'm with you FTDK - go the Bonnies, cruisin past a Trinidad. http://http://s749.photobucket.com/a...SIBTOSBORO.jpg
