Yes, Taildragger, I only flew sn on the -200 a few times, but the crew were rather reluctanct to do a days work! I agree that the UK rules may have had some bearing on their PNG operations that was a bit of a disaster.

When it was decided to reduce the Airbus fleet to one, PX Commercial asked that a sub-committee be formed to look into the aquisition of an aircraft to back-up the A310 international operation, but at the same time be suitable for domestic operations. Capt pek had previously done a fantastic job compiling an aircraft comparison publication that was used as the base. After all was in the melting pot, the 73-500 was selected as the most suitable to operate the Aust services and carry a few to Mnl. as well as most of the domestic routes.

The route cost cost analysis data etc was compiled by the manufacturers representative using info provided by px bean counters. The rep was most upset when informed by chief bean counter that his report was a bunch of misinformation and lies and he said that he had never been so insulted in all his years dealing with airlines all over the world. He doubted if he would ever visit px again.

Later, the chief beancounter selected that pommie 4-engined wonder at an acmi cost near as much as a -500. That again lost a squillion.

When I left uncle Joe, er now Sir Joe and the beancounter presented me with a -500 model. I still think that overall, it would have worked better for px.

A pity really that Boeing stopped producing the 85 seat -100. That would have given the 28-100 a run for the money.

No doubt more than a few of us can relate to the events descibed.

However, the accompanying piccie looks suspiciously like Kamulai to me. Anyone out there got any piccies of Komako?

Black Jack was found back in about 88 by two mates of mine, 'Bubbles' Pearce and Bruce Johnson. It's 140'+ down so that gives you some idea of the water clarity when diving in PNG. 140' isn't that deep but I reckon the women in the first part of that vid is just a little narced:ok: It's a great dive but like most aeroplanes not all that interesting compared to diving shipwrecks. The shipwreck of the S Jacob is just along the coast...well about 30nm...and would be the best shipwreck dive on the planet bar none...over 200' so don't think it will be getting the attention of 'tour group' divers the way old Black Jack is...which is good.

PNG will always be the best diving ever...I still love to dive but everytime I get in the water anywhere else it is just dissappointing.

Never heard of Folopa...but watching the vid brought back memories of the best years of my career.

The glimpse of blue cowl you get on the vid had me thinking SIL.

The God squad don't 'own' strips they way they once did...back in 87 DCA rescinded the 'restricted' strip classification and it became open slather. I presume it remains that way to this day.

Had to pick a woman up (be nice) at Moonbil, an MAF strip about two inches from the West Irian border.

It was Christmas Eve and we were just going to close down the Talair base (read "container") at Tabubil for a convivial when we got the radio call from Telefomin to "Pick up this lady from Playboy at Moonbil".

Bruce Johnson couldn't get the twotter started fast enough! We all had to go - as spotters for the strip - as no one had been there before! As we taxied up to the "Terminal" at Moonbil Glen Cameron said "She's worth saving!" She was too.

Her name is E. Jean Carrol and she writes about sex and is a contributor to Playboy. She had walked from Telefomin to Moonbil! An interesting Christmas!!! She raised a few eyebrows at the Hash Orphans Christmas Dinner too!

I was up at Wewak the other day and heard that a well know PNG developer, has purchased a 200 berth cruise liner to park up outside the Windjammer and convert it into a Casino. :D

How will they repel boarders? :uhoh:

More importantly how will they stop gamblers being sea sick all over the 'crap' tables:} when there is a sea running....which is more often than not the case off the Ginjammer.

Could even do a remake of the Poseiden Adventure next time there is a little offshore guria and the Sandown shoreline turns into Waimea Bay again:ok:
