You fellas crack me up.

tinpis if that's the office where do I send my application for this Dicktatership thingummy.:p

Bongos?? our company imported the first three into Oz, I actually met Messrs Britten and Norman.
It was designed to replace that other Heath Robinson contraption called the Scottish Pioneer for the Scottish inter island services whose airports consisted mostly of the nearest beach at low tide.

One of them was VH-EQE which was the "factory" entry in a London to Sydney air race. If I recall correctly it won its section. It might have been the "Vickers Vimy Replica" one. :rolleyes:

They were then perfect for the NW of Australia, I see one of them VH-RTP (RT* block was ours) is in FNQ, the other VH-RTV went to heaven in a NW Cyclone by flogging herself to death at the end of the tie down chains in Roebourne. Not surprising given the 110kt winds were beyond the normal crz speed. :*

Ya know you've got it right when one arrives at Marble Bar packed to the rafters with kilderkins of beer after the town has been cut off for weeks due to the wet and the WHOLE town, every man jack of them is there to meet it. :D

Cheers

Ahhh, Tinpis. You have access to your user name again I see.

Now, don't play with your profile again or "Tinpis" will forever disappear into cyberspace!!!!!

And, ahhh .... that other user name - hardly suitable for polite society! Then again, ain't much polite society in this thread!

Advice on Milne Bay

I'm heading up to Milne Bay at the end of the month for some diving with Mike Ball, including perhaps a dive on the B25 bomber. Can any of you greybearded New Guinea people provide any advice on what to do/not do in that part of the world?

Reminds me of the time I stayed at the Kiriwina Lodge on the Trobriands... the owner at that time, one Ray Hargraves, came around knocking on the my door at some unearthly hour...

Have you got a girl in there?

No

Hang on I'll get you one.

True story.

Sunfish 13th Sep 2005 22:23

Aaaaaaaaargh! (Runs screaming for the door)

Lusimtingting 14th Sep 2005 00:26

Sunfish

For accommodation at Alotau recommend the " Bilak Bokis " hotel , just ask around for opinions.
You need to observe correct protocols in relation to tribal and local customs etc , for example , don't try to be too familiar with the local lasses , they are basically conservative and shy . A formal response after an introduction would be " Yu laik holim stik bilong mi ?". When formally greeting males the recommended opening would be " Yupela olsem pek-pek ". Practise these simple phrases and they will open doors for you.

Chimbu chuckles 14th Sep 2005 00:30

animalclub...my first time in the Chimbu Disco in Kundiawa after only a few days in town a nubile 'Chimbu Maiden' wanders up to the skinny slip of a lad that was Chuckles and suggests she might go home with me :ooh: She dissapears back into the crowd after my stumbling deferment to reappear with her brother...big bastard too :sad: "Dis is my sister!!!" "and very nice she is too sir...gulp" "YOU TAKE HER HOME AND **** HER...SHE BE PROUD!!!!"

:ugh:

Other usefull phrases;

Yu laik kai kai rope bilong mi?

Yu savi kwap?

Chuckles:ouch: :E

Woomera 14th Sep 2005 00:42

Nice one Lusimtingting!!! :} :} :}

Animalclub, I wonder if "Rubber Legs" Ray is still alive? If not, hope they didn't cremate him - it'd take a month to put the fire out!

Wasn't that nubile maiden on the previous page a Miss PNG about 30 years ago? I can just imagine what she'd look like now.......... :hmm:

Chuck reminds me of a German Tour group arriving in Chimbu in the Talco Tours days, an old toothless hag wanders over and gave one of the male tourists a "Chimbu Handshake" on his crown jewels - I nearly died laughing at the response!! :E
