Thank you DF.
However Flight Aware only shows IFR flights and some very few flights in PNG which is outside of the F/A primary coverage area, hence my query
But again, thanks... the aircraft must be parked somewhere and I would have thought an Ag Pilot in PNG would be a scarce commodity.

Did anyone know a Vincento Caferella. Apparently he speared in at some point. Have been given the opportunity to buy something of his recently. My father remembers a Maltese pilot from Wewak, but cannot recall his name. Cheers

Hi, does anybody know of Samaratin Aviation, based in Wewak?
Specifically which type of aircraft do they operate and the registrations USA or PNG? They maybe float aircraft?
Thanks,
MM

Vincento Caferella

Hi there
I remember meeting Vince in CKN circa 1973. He was operating a C182 for Cooktown Air Taxi.
Vaguely, I recall him telling me that he came down from PNG (perhaps ex-Highlands or Sepik area), and some of his experiences "long hap". I am not sure if he was married at the time.
A few years later, I learned that he had returned to PNG and, regrettably, was involved in a fatal crash. RIP.

Vince Caffarella who flew , briefly, for Cooktown Air Services, maintenance HQ Mt Molloy. Used to come to our bush house just near the strip and go straight to the fridge. Funny guy ...and obviously always hungry.!
He flew for a Catholic mission out of Wewak for 6 ? years, before Cooktown Air, but wanted to get back to PNG.
Before he left he visited with his new lady friend, English ? and name forgotten.
The Catholic mission put him on the south side of the country, which he had yet to 'learn' as intimately as he knew the northside. I believe he got boxed in ,wrong valley and went in off the turn back. Vince and his lady were killed and her parents in the back badly injured. Only quoting hearsay here, which may not be 100%

One of his anecdotes I do recall was trapped in a valley, he had to go 'holding pattern' until after some hours and many 'looks' he could just see the bottom of the target strip thru the ragged cloud base and quickly scrapped in before it closed off again. Fuel was getting low ...and nowhere to go...! Twitch, twitch !!
Such is life in PNG ..and sadly for Vince his death and hers. RIP
I still have the neg of an advertising shot for CAS with Vince and ? looking at docs beside the C 206.

I met another guy , name forgotten, who had flown seafood out of Daru to Goroka and he did the same thing nr Taipini. RIP again.

Lady Somare is currently being transferred to hospital in Sydney via Tropicair's Citation Jet, with tech stop at BNE. Lady Somare is not well and apparently is not suffering from a stroke as suggested in today's PNG Post Courier.

Lady Somare not comfortable in the Wewak Haus Sick?

A Squared 7th Aug 2019 18:05

I thought the Somares went to Singapore for medical care?

Perhaps the Australian Government is throwing unlimited money at the PNG Government, and this would be seen as a good will gesture.
It was reported on Page 1 of Wednesday's 'Australian' newspaper that the new PNG prime Minister has formally asked China to cover PNG's $27, billion USD debt. The PM also stated that PNG's future lies with China. The Chinese would require some sort of 'security' over such a loan; so why not give China access to all the Resources and Infrastructure in return.
Forget about de-stabilising the Pac-Rim area; who cares in PNG politics.
It's a big worry folks!

Not real sure the Somare family would be welcome in Singapore these days.

Due that court case naming him as the recipient of USD$1 million bribe that lead to jail time....

Any news on the fate of the Maserati's and Bentley's, + the other 400 APEC vehicles ?

I was wondering about that.

I saw a PNG news item last week where the auction was advertised, bids are being received but not yet assessed. The cars are still in the shed at the wharf in Port Morbid.

If that do not have Australian Compliance Plates as I have been told, they are probably destined to a life in PNG thus greatly reduced resale price.

Good luck in getting clean 98 Octane fuel and specialist manufacturers approved service, maintenance and parts.

geeup 17th Aug 2019 06:43

The Maserati are the diesel models but yes same problem I believe is the required spec isn’t available. No ADR compliance is correct ie unable to be registered in oz without expensive engineering paperwork.

Rumour was 2 out of the 40 were sold at previous auction for undisclosed amount. It was K1000 non refundable to enter the door at the auction.

No word on the Bently’s

geeup 17th Aug 2019 06:47

I stand corrected.

1 x Maserati and 1 x Bentley are the only 2 that have been sold at the last auction.

I was fascinated to read that although the tenders were issued wrongly and there was no reserve price, somehow 2 of them were sold. Can we assume that they went to a "friendly" party (or parties) at a "friendly" price?

I'm glad you haven't become cynical.
