ARPs 6th May 2019 20:00

Last I heard P2-KAA was parked in Nadzab at the NCA hanger.

Just had an update, P2-KAA is sitting in pieces outside the NCA hanger.
Also, P2-NCA (C402) was cut up last year too.

Does Kiunga Aviation still exist? I thought Richard had retired to Brisbane.

Richard was badly injured in late 2009 after an engine failure in his C185 P2-MJL. I recall that the engine failed due to the loss of oil that was caused by the oil filter assembly coming loose (or something related). Report is probably on the AIC’s website. Richard done a great forced landing in difficult terrain, however a fire broke out shortly after impact and Richard unfortunately sustained pretty bad burns.

OK, it's time to own up! Who has been playing fast and loose with the cheque book?

Government B350 King Air ,P2-PNG, is in the Hawker Pacific hangar at CNS and being returned to flight status, so the story goes ??

Current flight crew all up to date with 12 month SIM and 6 month base checks, ???

Duck Pilot 9th May 2019 08:14

Don't think they need to go through the sim under the PNG regs, just need to get a suitably qualified trainer and FE to do the IPC. When I was with CASA PNG, I done a couple of IPCs for the guys flying it at the time and I must say that I was pretty impressed as the machine had not long gone through a full Garmin EFIS upgrade, great fun aircraft to fly and it was kept in pretty good condition back then, around 2012.

I don't know if anyone has up to date info but I'll ask anyway. Dad went to New Guinea in '37, was in Rabaul when the volcano lit up and has a very dramatic night photo which I hold. He worked as a patrol officer for a period and was in Salamaua pre war with Burns Philp, which is where he met to be Mum who had moved up six months prior to the war. She was evacuated and Dad stayed on till the end of the war, first with the New Guinea Volunteer Rifles and later with ANGAU. Question is, is there anyway to visit Salamaua, and do it safely considering the state of the country? Many Thanks.

Salamaua evacuation, to be Mum is somewhere there.

Megan it’s more cost & logistic prohibitive.
Everything is doable in PNG.

Taily; Damn sure that I had a drink with Granger in the Club Dero:} wantaim. Cannot remember exactly when, but I do remember him as one bloody good Bloke!:ok:

For some reason cannot get link to play!:ugh:

Purely for something to say.........
My taim bilong PNG was all too bloody short! (18 months!) But I will never ever forget the Friends I made, the experiences I had, the things I learned that you would not learn anywhere else and especially the 'ohfeckImgonna die' moments!:uhoh::mad:

With regard to the last mentioned; Prior to gaining my first job in PNG I had a conversation with a Talair line pilot who just happened to be near the phone in the Crew room in Port Moresby when I called, asking for the Chief Pilot.
The conversation we had I could now only describe as an 'interrogation.':hmm:

Towards the end of this interrogation he said that all the the Chief Pilot would want to know is...... "Can you fly?"
"Can you handle remote areas (ie ; Know where you are at all times) and handle bad weather?"

And he ended the phone call with the statement that 'if you did not have at least one of the 'ohfeckimgonnadie' moments per week then you were not working hard enough!

At the time I thought that the last statement was one of the greatest 'line shoots ever said!'

I leave it to fellow ex Lapuns to answer the last one for themselves.

Air Services shutting down majority of Nav Aids
Surely you mean that they are shutting down the one or two navaids that still work........

NCD 23rd May 2019 11:47

Worldaerodata.com lists the PNG Navaids as below. Have fun finding many of them!!.

Air Services have been broke a long time now, what with "dividends" to the Govt, POM resurfacing for APEC, etc, so not surprising that further aids would be switched off.

The AIC listing would suggest some Nav-Aids remaining, some are privately owned:
OK TEDI NDB/DME

POM ILS/DME/VOR/LLZ

Not an oil rig as such, it's a marine oil loading terminal. And yeah, privately owned NDB.

Peter O'Steal (O'Neil) is OUT Sir Julius is new PM

O'Neil is out the door, Sir Julius is back !

O'Neil is out the door, Sir Julius is back !
No he isn't. All smoke and mirrors by O'Neill. Obviously trying to frustrate the Vote Of No Confidence due to be tabled in Parliament tomorrow?

Constitutionally O'Neill must resign to the Governor General who advises the Speaker of Parliament.

Parliament elects the Prime Minister; O'Neill has no power to appoint a "caretaker Prime Minister".

Just another day in PNG politics.

FlightAware shows it as last having flown in May 2016.
